I feel like I'm very close here, and would appreciate some insight.
When I import a custom animation from Maya, it works on the TF2 models.
Any other models I try to import gives a long list of errors.
I have even followed suggestions of renaming the bones
Most custom models import with the ValveBiped bone list.
I have changed the all of the names in the animation set
editor to match TF2 bone names.
I still receive an error though. Here is a screen cap of what happens.

Note: On the left side the bones are renamed correctly.
