Here you can post your models, do requests and discuss. A small tutorial about porting models into SFM version of source engine This tutorial is for advanced users if you have no idea what to do with this software watch tutorials about decompiling and compiling 1. You would need guistudioMDL and mdlDecompiler. 2. Decompile desired model with MDLdecompiler 3. Open GUIstudiomdl and set up the SDK tool path for either Orange box or Episode one (Steam\steamapps\common\SourceFilmmaker\game\bin) 4. Compile model and start filming it! List of converted models: -DP films characters - download - info -MaxOfs2D's tf2 styled citizens - download - info -Rebbacus and Max's models - download Contact me if you want your models added to the list. FYI I don't have time for convertion requests.
Decompiling is a terrible thing to do. Don't be surprised if it horribly breaks the models.
Decompiling is a terrible thing to do. Don't be surprised if it horribly breaks the models.
Max have you made your models SFM compatible?
When I try to open the "mdldecompiler" it's say I need a vstdlib.dll help please..
When I try to decompile a Gmod model, it gives me an error that it couldn't load the model. Before this I tried a different version of the Decompiler and it would decompile the model, but when I would try to compile it using SFMs studiomdl it would give me some kind of error referring to "flex" models. Another topic on hear stated that this was a problem with models that had mouth movements(which is every character model pretty much).
Would recompiled NPC models (scout's mom, administrator, director, etc) be of interest to people?
Would recompiled NPC models (scout's mom, administrator, director, etc) be of interest to people?
oh god yes
Would recompiled NPC models (scout's mom, administrator, director, etc) be of interest to people?
Please!
Would recompiled NPC models (scout's mom, administrator, director, etc) be of interest to people?
Rebbacus, please do this! It would be so awesome that it'd be too awesome. ^^
hmmm.... would it be at all possible to decompile the SFM HWM models, i am interested in the supah_hd_fingers so, one could possibly use those in their own models, i only tried the demoman and it only decompiled the collar around his neck before the model decompilers (all four of the ones i used) crashed EDIT: yes, i tried all the IDST options i could remember (0, 1, "," "/" and ".")
I spent hours and hours attempting all this yesterday...so many errors, problems, bad file directories, problems loading/compiling models etc, so just a warning to anyone hoping this might be easy, it's really not :( If you're going to delve into it, you'll want some basic programs like GCFscape, SourceSDK, Notepad ++, VTFedit, preferably some form of 3D modelling program like 3Ds Max with plugins allowing you to import and export SMDs and read VTFs. I didn't have a huge amount of luck in the end, but I did encounter and manage to overcome a hell of a lot of errors and problems with files every step of the way, so i'll post my experiences below. When decompiling, if you're getting an error saying it can't load the model, you'll want to open up the mdl file with Notepad ++, it'll look messy, but you just need to edit the first line or so of text. Should say something like IDST0, IDST1, or maybe just IDST. You'll want to change it to ISDT with a comma after it, so "IDST," without the quotation marks. Then close it and save it, and it should decompile properly. If you're getting errors saying that files like vstdlib.dll or others are missing, you've likely got the model compiler/decompiler in the wrong directory. Generally, it should be in a /bin folder, so most likely in either "steamapps\common\SourceFilmmaker\game\bin" for the new SFM studiomdl compiler, or in "steamapps\YOURNAME\sourcesdk\bin\ep1\bin" for SourceSDK version of studiomdl. Some very useful sites: http://www.wunderboy.org/3dapps.php - mainly 3Ds Max import/export plugins http://www.chaosincarnate.net/cannonfodder/cftools.htm - some model decompilers, and a pretty good (almost) automatic compiler called StudioCompiler that helps create QC files for you I'm sure there's plenty of other problems i've forgotten about, but hopefully this will help someone :)
Anyone working on any custom TF2 models? anyone taking up any requests? I lack the software and the knowledge. Would love some custom models.
If Apoc's Sonic models are possible, then that would be pretty cool.
Yeah I gave everything a try, so allow me to introduce Tali'Zorah Vas Fuck'up. Ive tried everything so far, Garrus was the only model Ive successfully converted [IMG_THUMB]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/542932039760661592/4C19630108AF46B8B3D5C575A16A3238042E1611/[/IMG_THUMB]
lol anyone willing to convert the astronaut from alpha moon base http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=124989 I need him for a video.
If we could get the Civilian done i would love whoever did it forever. http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=113300 Just tried it myself, sfm just explodes when i try to even look at the model name.
After a compile a model, SFM crash? Why..
Decompiling is a terrible thing to do. Don't be surprised if it horribly breaks the models.
What would you recommend doing?
What would you recommend doing?
Getting in touch with whoever did the models and ask them to recompile. Either way, point moot, since the crashes are now (allegedly) fixed! BUT STILL! SFM-optimized versions of Rebb's NPC models are now available at http://source.maxofs2d.net/index.php?dir=models • Administrator / announcer • Miss Pauling • Civilian • Director • Old Nick • Scout's Mom
Our prayers have been answered, I can now import models from any source game now thanks to the newest update to SFM that stopped SFM crashing when loading said models from other source games.
Now we just gotta figure out how to make IK rigs for easier animation
Man, you know what model i would love to see? Little Jack. (he is the kid in spy's shoulders)
Source Filmmaker version 0.9.5.6 has been released. This update will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include: Fixed players rendering as big black blocks Fixed crash in create server dialog Fixed crash reading models from other source games Fixed a few other crashes Is this conversion REALLY necessary now?

Now we need to know about map convertion because AO and toneMAPscale are not working on some of them.
I sent an E-Mail to the SFM Team shortly after they released the patch and got a response 5 hours ago (GMT+1 with DST...and I was sleeping). Seems like we won't have support for L4D1 and L4D2 models (for now?) Here's a screenshot:

This may be asking for a bit much, but is it possible to get the civilian to have phonetic sliders? Lipsyncing without them is somewhat of a pain.
I'm trying to decompile ChemicalAlia's Female Engineer model and am consistently getting a GUIStudio error about not having a "gameconfig.txt" in the target location or something like that, even though I tried to set it up for steam/steamapps/common/sourcefilmmaker/game/bin. Should I just copy over one of the three gameconfig.txt files I found when searching (none of which are in the needed file), or do I need to make a new one, or what? Someone please help ASAP. Or better yet, someone could go ahead and decompile all of CA's fems for SFM, since I know I'm not the only person who wants them. :v: (Or are they already decompiled and I just don't know about it yet? If that's the case, a link would be oh-so-highly appreciated.)

Works fine unless you enable AO, that would require the author to recreate it I think. Then again, it never hurts to you know, contact the creators. I needed help with a model that I was using, I looked up the creator and he gladly helped me out.
