"Prelude to Victory" has a special place in our hearts because it was made with an early prototype of the SFM that only had game recording, clip editing and camera manipulation. There was no animation system, no posing, no set dressing, and no lighting. Everything you see in that video is us recording ourselves running around in the game, then later adding motion blur, depth of field and some film grain and color correction. Having a constrained set of tools with which to make a trailer meant we had to get creative with our process. It also taught us a lot about the process of telling stories using game assets.
Man, this reminded me of the first SFM thread on Facepunch back in December '09 / January '10. One guy posted what he alleged was a clip he made in the Source Filmmaker. Many of us were skeptical about his claim since it was the first time we'd seen any movement on the mythical Source Filmmaker that was teased over our heads for years already. He also refused to tell people how to get it for a while for the fear that people would steal his machinima ideas
For the first few days it was just a small handful of people - maybe a dozen of us who were able to get it working and were slowly trying to figure out how to operate the software without it crashing, glitching or corrupting whatever we were working on. A few of us felt like gold diggers, just mining away through random menus and sub-programs until we figured out little bits of useful information. It was a time of great discover!
This is (I think) the oldest non-Valve SFM video on the internet (the original video that sparked the whole debate was removed from Youtube):

It's pretty great to see the quality of stuff that SFM users are making now that they've released the official tool.
Oh my god dat soundtrack :memories:
Cheers! Does anybody have a hint on how to record gameplay for Day of Defeat: Source?
Now that we got the official DoD:S DLC a tutorial on how to "run" another game than TF2 inside the Source Filmmaker.
p.s. I know this is a 3 week bump.
