Based on the nightmare sequences from Mass Effect 3 (because I've been playing way too much Mass Effect in the last few weeks)

That would kind of take away the whole point of the picture...
I agree with you needing the figure in the picture however in my opinion the pose is kinda boring.
Not that its visually boring but the figure looks bored themselves, like "Oh well, might as well light a ciggy and catch a bus to tescos", instead of "Oh shit where tf am i"
I totally see your point in needing the character as well but, kind of as Piggo alluded to, it would be better if he was more engaged in his surroundings than just kind of in them. But I do like how it's lit up. And actually it kind of just occurred to me that maybe as eerie as the scene is, you may be better off adding a character to the scene maybe shadowed in darkness to give the viewer an idea of what the commander should be weary of.
I like it, the soft lighting works here, although it seems a bit incomplete. The background is darker than the trees in front of it, which is a bit weird
