Thats just like getting a present and having to find out that it's broken inside of tha package

I think it's a bug of placing them on the fireplace. Also noted some socks missing on my own server, they just disapeared. I know almost for sure rust knows about it, and will fix this soon with the other problems people have with buying items and not being able to craft them.
