This game is great, it's old it's expensive but it's great. It's got everything, you can build bases, kill enemies and program robots! Real programming and depending on how good you are you could end up making a base with robots whizzing around doing all task themselves including recharging them selves when needed. And there's exercises as well as a main campaign to teach you the basics and beyond. Anyway enough with that see for yourselves... You are at the head of a space expedition and you are assisted only by some robots. Your mission consists in successive attempts at the exploration and colonization of various planets. You will have to search for the raw materials and energy you need in order to survive. As you go forward, you will be able to build and program new types of robots which will prove of an invaluable help for the completion of your task. You may also want to know that most of the planets you'll be visiting are crowded with primitive and insect-like lifeforms and that you may be forced into fighting them if you want to stay alive.
http://www.ceebot.com/colobot/index-e.php Ceebot
Each exercise begins with precise instructions, often completed with an illustration. The goals and main programming principles are explained. Sometimes the program is developped completely with an explanation for each line, sometimes you are given a few clues to help you write the program yourself. But a solution is always at hand. You'll never be stranded in the middle of nowhere!

This is a screen print of the editor. The CeeBot key words of the programming language are highlighted. Identation is automatic. As soon as you type an instruction, a summary of the syntax appears at the bottom of the screen. If necessary, you can call up a complete help text just by clicking an icon. Spelling mistakes are immediately pointed out. You can use a step-by-step debugger that executes your program showing all the variables in real-time.

CeeBot is a brand new concept with which you will learn programming while having fun. The programming language you'll use is very similar to those used by professional programmers to develop their products. CeeBot introduces many modern concepts found in today's most popular environments like C++, C# or Java. After teaching you the syntax of CeeBot, progressive exercises will lead you to use important concepts such as variables, loops, conditional branching, functions, classes, objects, etc.
There's Four versions of Ceebot CeeBot-Teen 10-15 years CeeBot-Teen is ideal for kids from age 10 to 15. Miniature robots have to be programmed for various missions on a desktop or in a basement. Once the basic notions have been learnt, the player can program the robots in a more complex outside environnment. The basic notions treated in this software are sequencing instructions, repetitions, optional conditions and variables. CeeBot-A 15-99 years CeeBot-A is ideal for adolescents and adults. Lifesize robots are programmed in outside environments on various planets. A cosmonaut represents the player and allows you to observe and resolve problems. The principle themes treated in this software are repetitions, conditional options, variables, arrays, functions and classes. CeeBot3 10-15 years With CeeBot3 children from 10 years on can learn programming. The students use a programming language close to Java and C# to program a robot that will draw still or moving pictures. CeeBot-3 is a complete educational tool that will do most of the teaching by itself. The teacher's task will be to assist the students in their creative enterprise. CeeBot4 15-99 years You can use CeeBot4 as a game to learn programming, or to teach programming at middle school, high school and university. You will use a programming language close to Java and C# to program robots that will solve various tasks ranging from finding the way out of a labyrinth over car racing to playing soccer. CeeBot-4 is a complete programming course that will do most of the teaching by itself. The teacher's task (if there is one) will be mainly to assist the students in difficulty, allowing the students to progress each at his or her own pace. We used Ceebot-Teen in my Information Technology classes in high school, was fun in the latter stages where I was programming robots to navigate through mazes, attack eachother and play soccer.
It looks interesting, but I would rather program real stuff honestly. I'm not bashing your thread here, I'm just saying I'd rather make something cool with programming than use it in a game.
Funny, I was about to reply to you to post it in the forum rather than me adding it to the sticky as it didn't really fit in there.
I remember playing Colobot when I was 5-6 years old, my programs back then where just a huge ass-load of if cases. I later found my Colobot CD and remade one of the programs I had written earlier, replaced the entire program with 3 lines of code and it worked better than before :)
I remember playing this as a kid with Blupi. Nostalgia :3
I wish we done this stuff in school, im almost 13 and we are creating our first website in frontpage. WTF?
I wish we done this stuff in school, im almost 13 and we are creating our first website in frontpage. WTF?
It's a great tool for kids to mess with. Get them interested in what's a website, how to upload it, the different kind of things you can do with links, headers, footers. It's a natural introduction to more serious web programming.
I wish we done this stuff in school, im almost 13 and we are creating our first website in frontpage. WTF?
The information is right there. On the internet. If you "want" to learn programming, you "will/can/are able to" find it.
I wish we done this stuff in school, im almost 13 and we are creating our first website in frontpage. WTF?
Lucky. At 13 we wouldn't have been doing anymore than spreadsheets and word documents. How well does this actually teach?
The information is right there. On the internet. If you "want" to learn programming, you "will/can/are able to" find it.
easier to learn it in a program or take a class. it's a bit more difficult online anyways.
I wish we done this stuff in school, im almost 13 and we are creating our first website in frontpage. WTF?
I wish we had the opportunity to do html at High School I graduated from. The school was poor and they put all those classes such as Photoshop and the like the year before I could take them. I ended up taking a Business Tech course that they teacher ended up teaching us Microsoft Word and Excel for 4 semester because she wasn't qualified to do any other part of her job. Hell, I could have taught that class better than she could have.
easier to learn it in a program or take a class. it's a bit more difficult online anyways.
well thAT'S YOUR OPINION
It looks interesting, but I would rather program real stuff honestly. I found it at a local store for $5. I can't get it to work with Windows 7 x64 :saddowns: The demo for ceebot is worthless too. Instead of downloading it, you download a downloader that downloads it for you at a few kb/s.
Use compatibility mode, set it to win 95/98
This looks fucking incredible. I'm so gonna try this.
This seems like something people like myself who like programming, but don't really have any "awesome ideas" of what we should make with our programming knowledge would enjoy.
Also this!
I know I'm necroing a dead topic but I've had Colobots for a while. And I've been wondering does Ceebot4 contain the Colobots campaign, and the free play options in Colobot? And when I download the demo of Ceebot4, I play a mission, and look at the information about the Bot Factory it says something about it being possible in Colobots as well as in Ceebot to use the 'factory()' command. But while the Ceebot4 demo recognizes this as a function, my Colobot game does not. So I'm a little confused. Anyone have any info about this? Again sorry for necroing, don't even know if I will get a response...
Like what?
Like what?
What? What do you mean? My question are in the post: 1. Does Ceebot4 contain the campaign and free play of Colobots? 2. And why does the demo of Ceebot4 say I can use the 'factory()' command in Colobots but when I try it in Colobots it isn't recognized?

"Name"="colobot.exe" "Readme"="readme.txt" "Version"="Version 1.8 /e" do a file asdf.reg and edit this in and it should run
Nevermind, I finally got it.
I'm doing challenge 1-4 of Colobot (The maze one), and I can't get the bot to finish the entire maze, he does about 60% of it then turns the wrong way randomly and drives into a wall. Here's my code:
extern void object::Labyrinth() { object ForwardWall; object LeftWall; while(true) { ForwardWall = radar(Barrier, 0, 0, 0, 5, 1); LeftWall = radar(Barrier, 90, 0, 0, 5, 1); if(ForwardWall == null) { move(5); } else { if(LeftWall == null) { turn(90); } else { turn(-90); } } } }
Is this available for purchase, not piracy anywhere else than paying 70 euros for a looks fun game?
