Frankly, does it look worth the (from what I've read) $779 price tag?

A few things I've found
- Before you cream yourself, it's not the iD of Doom fame.
- It seems like it uses ACTUAL programming, not that FPSC shit that their other classes use.
- Seriously? Unreal Engine 3? Or are they passing off iD Tech 3 as that?
- Would I understand this if I have been programming C++ for about 1.5 to 2 years and understand
all the core concepts?
Something not totally related to the subject at hand: Is Unreal Engine 1 free or not? I've searched, but got conflicting sources.
you can't go if you're over 17?
My guess is that it's an Unreal Tournament 3 mod.
Nothing wrong with iD Tech 3 though.
And if the age limit is 17, I think having 2 years of experience overqualifies you. 17ish seems too young to really do any of the stuff they're doing it seems like.
Also, Unreal Engine 1 is not free.
iD Tech 1, 2, and 3 are free, and 4 will be eventually.
I have been there last summer, and its fun, I think its worth the price. You can go if you're below 17 by the way, I was 15 when I went.

...hopefully.
id software has been acquired by ZeniMax/Bethesda recently. They can't really make their own rules anymore.
Also you can be a beginner or advanced, it doesn't matter, they have different courses on different levels.
lol...im going to the unreal engine one (game modding)
i actually like iD tech
even though people here in programming probably don't
anyways, my last year going, as i turn 18 in october.
HELLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I'm currently an instructor at iD Tech. (I'm teaching Unreal luckily enough)
iD tech stands for internalDrive, NOT having anything to do with id tech [1.2.3.4.5], which is an engine.
I'm actually currently attempting to get them to get rid of FPSCreator, as well as a few other things, and replace with something like Saurbraten, or Platinum Arts Sandbox.
Now about the course, Unreal Engine 3, we use UT3. You get a free copy of the game. Realize however, that it's mostly level design, unless you ask your instructor for UnrealScript, but there is a high chance they won't be able to do teach it to you (it's basically just Java), as most of the people who teach it are artists. If you tell me the location you're looking at, I can tell you if there is someone there who is capable of UnrealScript programming.
On the note of Unreal Engine 1 being open source the answer is a definitive no.
Epic is a very large corporate entity, who protects their trade secrets, unlike id software, who would more often than not rewrite the entire engine, while keeping their pipeline the same. The current Unreal Engine (3) is still using some code back from the days of 1998. So to release Unreal Engine 1, would result in a large amount of people getting an extremely well designed engine for pennies, which (with today's technology), could be upgraded to something could actually rival Epic's own Unreal Engine 2, which is still for sale (300K).
If you have any more questions feel free to post, or PM me. :)

I pm'd you the answer. I'm not legally allowed to say my location. :/

Really? Then how about this: You tell us the general area in which you live, and that's all we need to know.
On a side note, I was thinking about going here one summer, but the pricetag was just way to high for a one week thing.
I'm going to DMA's (Digital Media Academy) Advanced Game Creation camp at Stanford. I went last year and picked up quite a bit of knowledge on Unreal Engine 3, as well as maya and ZBrush. I have never gone to iDTech, but they did have another building at Stanford. I assume they were also working with UT3.
I fly out July 26, my week of camp is July 27-31. Lemme know if anyone else is going.
