• Actionscript - what have you done with it.

Actionscript is a programming language that if your here, you probably already know about. Post what you have done in it! http://spamtheweb.com/ul/upload/040510/74990_Core_play_levels.php Im still kinda working on that game.
I've done a lot of work in Flex for work which I can't share for legal reasons. Also wrote a lot of shitty flash games using Flash, most of which I've since lost. :( Think I have a Tetris clone somewhere around here, along with a lunar lander clone. But that's all I've got left, if I do.

Anyways, I've just made stupid little games here and there. [editline]09:22PM[/editline] And a couple of flash-based websites/website-headers.
I can't really discuss because of some paper I signed. But as far as outside work, I have made some games. I like AS3 a good bit.
http://bj0.org/upload/U2A5_GuessingGame.swf And a bunch of other coursework for it mostly involving boring stuff like number manipulation. This was pretty fun to code, so I messed around with it a bit.
Handful of flash games. Actionscript is pretty useless otherwise.
This :D At least that's the last thing I made.
Handful of flash games. Actionscript is pretty useless otherwise.
That sadly doesn't stop people from applying Flash to everything else in the world :v:
Pirate Launch I did the programerating
Just today, I made this: http://gp.dinerostudios.com/countdown/ I've also made this: http://garryspin.com/
The first one is wrong, my last day is June 10th.
Yeah, I made that for my class to put on the projector. It's only for my school.
Oh, Ok. The Garry Spin is awesome. Booookmaaaaaarked.
Yeah, I made that for my class to put on the projector. It's only for my school.
sadly, my class gets out the 11th :l
Just today, I made this: http://gp.dinerostudios.com/countdown/
why the hell did you use flash for that?
why the hell did you use flash for that?
Because he doesn't know javascript for HTML?
Because he doesn't know javascript for HTML?
Not an excuse. Doing that in JS is much simpler than in AS.
Not an excuse. Doing that in JS is much simpler than in AS.
Each to their own Turb_.
Each to their own Turb_.
I don't see why anyone would prefer a proprietary lump of bloated crap over an open standard to implement something as simple as a countdown timer. also, you can drop the _ if you want
I personally perfer the bloated actionscript language of other languages.
I did the programming for a game with zombies in it. One of my friends did the art. I should probably get around to uploading it somewhere.

Some people like Action Script, so why is it wrong of them to use it? Because you'd prefer programming it in something else?
Your bias is way too big. Some people like Action Script, so why is it wrong of them to use it? Quit complaining and go make your own then if you seriously hate it will all the might capable of being produced in your guts.
Quit complaining and go make your own then if you seriously hate it will all the might capable of being produced in your guts.
I have better things to do with my time

With all the flash all around this really strains your laptops batteries.
Well then, we'll just have to watch Youtube with JavaScript players. I believe Flash is so spread for a reason and if it was as bad as you two make it, no-one would use it.
Oh there are bad things, which just got successful because there's money behind it. Why are we not yet driving around in cars with an electrical or hydrogen motor? Why do we eat meat, when we all know that this causes ethical problems due to the animals living in bad situations? Why is smoking and drinking alcohol permitted? Flash just got lucky. Java applets are a better example. It's an open standard at it runs quite fine, it just didn't get a fancy editor and I dunno if it's graphics components are properly hardware accelerated. I haven't heard much about Silverlight, but I think it will be another platform that I will gladly prefer to flash, especially because I don't have to pay to develop shit on. Also, HTML5 media-tag :D
Well I don't think that there's anything that can currently compete with it. Also, I don't understand how you can even compare Java applets and Flash. In my eyes they are 2 completely different things. Java is slow to load and in my experiences crashes/freezes WAY more often. Electrical or hydrogen motors are alternatives, there isn't one to Flash. Not yet at least and I don't know much about Silverlight either. Plus, you don't have to pay. Flex SDK is free and you can use FlashDevelop as an IDE. Comparing Flash to drinking ans smoking is just wrong and the only bad thing you mentioned is that it strains the batteries.
I wasn't comparing Flash to that, I was looking for examples of bad things, that are socially accepted though knowingly are bad. I'm comparing Flash to Java applets, because that's the nearest I could think of. I guess when you pre-start the Java VM it could load faster. Doesn't Java have some 2D vector graphics library? The swf format is proprietary, so FlashDevelop was probably created through reverse engineering. I did not know of Abobe Flex. I'm not shunning Flash for straining batteries and bad Linux support (according to my sister it's also not too well on OSX), I'm shunning it for not being an open format. If it was, then the community or any organisation could easily build alternative players for their needs and properly support it.
