Hey! Im 16 and would like to start earning the odd small amount of cash here and there. I would like to do so by maybe programming a MyBB theme or design a website for someone. Im fluent in PHP and HTML along with CSS. Im not too good with javascript at all just yet and am going to learn more as Id love to make some Firefox OS apps. Heres some of my work: [T]http://i.imgur.com/64NzK10.png[/T] [T]http://i.imgur.com/DtSSYje.png[/T] The BitCraft website was my own design apart from ofcorse the Plex RP one. Plex RPs design although I programmed it my self entirely it is pretty much like Garrysmod.coms old design with a few twists of my own. What in your opinion should I work on improving on? Id say personally improve on JS stuff and ofcorse more up to date designs. I know the latest design craze is all flat stuff so maybe get on board with that? I dont plan on designing websites being my full time earner as im more of an iOS developer but it would be nice to earn the occasional bit of money with web development as I really enjoy web dev. I started on PHP, HTML and CSS when I was 13 which was at the same time I moved on from Visual Basic to Objective C. Objective C has had my primary attention but I learnt web dev on the side. I can do quite a bit in PHP with the very occasional look on w3schools for some documentation mainly on SQL. I have made my own forums from scratch using PHP along with a work in progress social network which I am still working on which sort of gives you an idea of what I can do in PHP. (it is just about functional) Anyways it'd be good to have some feedback on what I should be doing to improve on and what I should be doing next to get good enough to earn a little bit but not professionally. Id be happy to make £50 per job atm but thats just to give you an idea that I dont expect much cash out of it. Anyways, if I could have some direction here thatd be great! Thanks.
I can do quite a bit in PHP with the very occasional look on w3schools for some documentation mainly on SQL
This. No, just no. There is a HUGE documentation for PHP on http://php.net. Use that and never, ever go back to w3schools. I really hope you don't use the old mysql queries instead of the new, improved mysqli or PDO. Now, OnT: From your description of yourself, you've learned quite a bit over 3 years of coding. In my opinion, you really should develop a few more things that you can put on the table during a job "e-interview". PHP has a wide range of things you can do. Everything from workarounds to API systems. You should remember though that this is the web dev section of FP, we all know how to code and there are barely anyone here who wants to hire someone. Atleast not for money but TF2 items if that suits you. You should also look into web security as it is really good to know how to secure your projects and applications. I'd also recommend you to look into sys-administration as you will understand alot more about what you codes really does aswell as it looks better on that table combined with those projects.
