Hey guys, I've been development sites professionally for 2 years and I have gained some decent skills but now I want to start gaining my own skills, mostly in MV* Javascript, Less/Sass, and more OO Backend programming. I have tried to adapt Bootstrap to WordPress and so far it is going well, I'm starting to learn a lot about responsive design and Less but I really don't want to be using WordPress as a way to gain some OO programming skills.
So what I needed some was fun ideas of things I could potentially develop, I have been trying to come up with something myself and my brain just goes Meh. Also what blogs do you guys and girls use to keep up to date, these days there seems to be so much happening and I'm finding it hard to put apart the real gems and the noise on the web.

Why don't you kick out that word press CMS, and begin to write your own? If you start a company in the future, it will really help you out!

Thats actual a pretty great idea, I have been thinking to try and change wordpress into a API focused CMS, I could maybe write my own.
I have been taking a look at a few tools, such as Laravel recently. Anything you would recommend me using.
symfony 2 is a php framework, and it is a dream to my company. i would very highly encourage it to get you started in making a new CMS :)
what else... if you are working with other developers, i highly recommend keeping in communication over QQ international. it's a chinese instant messaging program, and it's amazing in how easily files can be sent scross, and screenshots cna be taken very quickly... for example, if you want to show a snippit of code, you simply click the screenshot button, and drag a box over what you want, and then hit enter, and boom they can see the picture in the messenger, and respond. it's amazing!!
i'd also suggest GIT if you are collaborating... also, if you don't want to worry to much about your own servers, big wet fish hosting have been amazing with their support. they usually answer tickets within 10 minutes!

I have to disagree with this if the person is looking for something more friendly, you should be looking into laravel
I actual have a lot of experience with symfony so that might be a good idea, albeit it legacy symfony which is one o the reasons I want to start doing my own project. I will also take a look at Laravel more, part of the project is teaching my gf how to program too, and developing with a 3rd friend who is an iOS developer but wants to start making web APIs to interface with iOS apps.
I will be using git/bitbucket to share work and I haven't thought of a host yet but I'm looking at something like digital Ocean where I have a bit more control over everything and thus need to learn how to properly set up and maintain a server. I will take a look at big wet fish thou.
Thanks for the suggestions guys.
