Obligatory post complimenting the aroma of the new thread.
So few highlights. I've got to step up my a-game.
Needs more highlights.
So few highlights. I've got to step up my a-game.
I'm most likely going to add more highlights later today, I didn't count on so many high-rating posts being non-content. If you guys want me to add more highlights, rate me agree, otherwise rate me disagree.
more the better
Don't focus on ratings, I saw some good content that had little ratings. [editline]1st November 2011[/editline] But don't put so many my computer lags :v:
More highlights.
My !Advance Wars didn't make it
Hello World
I managed to completely break the lighting and tiling in my game and I didn't save any recent backups..

Still screwing around with my level parser thingy. But my graphics have graduated from squares.
If I'm making my classes in C++ serialisable, should I be serialising them in a binary format, a more human-friendly text format, or have options for both? [editline]2nd November 2011[/editline] I guess I'll use the de-facto polling standard of the facepunch forums: binary [img]http://www.facepunch.com/fp/ratings/heart.png[/img] human-readable both other: comedy hurr option

This way you can also have child classes serialised properly just by calling their serialise member. I'm just wondering the best way of implementing those serialisation functions. I can see it being a better idea to serialise as binary for some things (ie data structures), while it'd be better to serialise as text for others (eg settings files). As I don't really want to have the serialisation functions working in different ways, I'd like to come up with one way that will be appropriate in all situations. I'm thinking I might just have serialise as always binary output and make another method for the settings files to output in a human-readable and editable text format.

Alternatively, you could have two types of serializer, a TextSerializer and a BinarySerializer
Alternatively, you could have two types of serializer, a TextSerializer and a BinarySerializer
That was an idea I had considered and now I'm thinking it'd probably be the best option. In other news, I really like the output of your Node Tree in the NodeTree.txt example file.
My !Advance Wars didn't make it
I don't know why but every time i see a post with a screenshot of your game i get very interested and excited :P Maybe it's the Nostalgia induced by it's classic graphics. Looks fun to program, makes me want to clone/remake it myself but you're already doing it and I currently have other stuff to do :I.
What DE is that?
Gnome 3. I decided to give it another shot, and it actually isn't that bad.
wow this new thread couldn't be any more disappointing, the highlights suck [editline]2nd November 2011[/editline] not the projects themselves but the amount of highlights sucks and the overall tone of the thread is boring and depressing

Nice, new thread. I'll just quickly repost that I'm making a stupid little zombie game and make a post all about it every Saturday on my website.
