Hey guys, I've recently been working on a new forum software named "Garry's Cloud".
I'll be selling the consumer product for $25 USD. But in the beta stage I'll be selling it for $15 USD.
So you may be asking yourself why should I put my money into this software where instead I can get
phpbb3 or any other free or paid forum software.
Well I've made a list of things you might consider:
- Price. Unlike other paid forum software this one is cheap and affordable.
- Steam compatible. Yep you've heard it, its steam compatible meaning people who play on your gmod server will be able to login
and be noticed. For example, Jimmy plays on a darkrp server. Has lots of money and donated. He logins in with his steam account to the
forum and automaticly he is set as a donator.
Also admins on the forums will be able to tell how much money, kills, deaths, kd ratio, and many more stats.
- Useful Features. I'm planning on adding features like automatic donation system, and be able to change user stats through the
forum software so this can be admin, money, etc.
- Design and Simplicity. I personally think of myself as a good designer. I've also made it easy to change, edit, and remove things from the
software.
Note: If you've purchased the beta product and would like to suggest bugs, ideas, etc. Go ahead i'll be glad to add/fix any ideas/problems.
I'm hoping to release the beta product to the public on new years day. So we'll see.
Something to also remember is I'm a single person working on this project.
I'm also hoping you consider purchasing and by doing that you're supporting me to be able to create more awesome things in the
future.

You know, making people register or authenticate of some sort for a demo is a little over the top in my opinion. At least for just viewing the forums.

Yeah I guess you're right, I'll enable so anyone can access it.

You're saying that a reason that you should get it instead of free software is because it's the cheapest paid software?

Pretty much every free/paid software has some easy OpenID integration.
and be noticed. For example, Jimmy plays on a darkrp server. Has lots of money and donated. He logins in with his steam account to the

So, the forum software comes with a donation script? And it connects to a DarkRP database to retrieve stats? So it's DarkRP forum software.
Also admins on the forums will be able to tell how much money, kills, deaths, kd ratio, and many more stats.
I assume this is for DarkRP, right? If so, DarkRP doesn't log kills or deaths. How are you planning on doing this?
99% of free forum software have theming systems, which you don't have.
I was giving examples I wasn't aiming at only talking about darkrp.
Logging kills and deaths, just place script inside your server to log.
Themes, like I've said I'm open to suggestions. I might work on a theme system.

So now, it's forum software, a donation system AND a DarkRP module? Or do you plan on supporting every gamemode?
@Coffeee You are just pointing out some things that he said. How he said, he was just giving example maybe he has and idea how to make all this things but he didn't told use. He could connect the server to mysql to store the K/D or what ever.
About the theme system you are right but maybe at the end he will have a theme system as well.
So now, it's forum software, a donation system AND a DarkRP module? Or do you plan on supporting every gamemode?
I would try to support as many as I can.
But my goal is to support these 3 gamemodes on launch:
- TTT
- DarkRP
- Deathrun
Whilst it's fair to say that you were only giving examples, you've not really listed anything that makes your forum software truely unique (and as such as to why people should use it, letalone pay for. You also lack any protection from prying eyes on your folders/directories, which begs the question is your forum software secure from common threats?
I like how you copied the w3schools meta tag example and forgot to change the meta description from "Free Web tutorials" as well as the <br> spam.
Just thought it was funny, especially seeing as you're charging people for this site. Makes it seem like you built it though tutorials or something.

Kind of disturbing that you actually know the contents of w3schools. Seeing as it's an abomoniation of a website.

He's also using center tags and line breaks for layout.
Also

Br? Br? Br? Br? A small CSS script can solve all these <br> tags, all these tags are a fucking mess.

I actually just googled content="Free Web tutorials">
It sounded weird just being there so I thought it was copied from somewhere which turned out it was w3schools.

Why are you 302 temporary redirecting pages to remove .php? You should probably use a 301 redirect so link juice is passed to the real URL and search engines don't get confused.
Why not just link directly to the none .php version of the pages in the first place too if you're just going to redirect them anyway?
e.g http://garryscloud.com/gcloud/about.php redirects to http://garryscloud.com/gcloud/about
I hope nobody actually buys this
Looks nice IMHO. Keep up the good work. I don't think anyone is going to buy this though.

What happend is I was lazy and I need the html and base code.
So I googled a base code then I found on w3schools
then I made my css and what not.
I dont think w3schools will teach how to make all that stuff :P
Just saying..
[editline]30th December 2013[/editline]
Ahh fuck it, I'll just release it to the public :P
my honest opinion is that this looks more like a learning piece than an actual sellable product.
My suggestion on that would be to make it OSS and have a place for donations; If you want, set up a bounty type thing so people can pledge $ for a specific bug fix or feature ( which would get it a higher priority over everything except security patches )
CSS and HTML is a mess, to much blue. Looks horrible, try again.
You had to find pictures because you didn't have any, but you call yourself a designer. Why don't you just make them yourself?
way too much padding on everything.

What point of test and laziness don't you get?

I'd like to see you do it, also it's the theme.. Its like going to steam website and saying too much gray.

Why are you trying to defend your terrible design skills by testing somebody elses?

From what I've seen from his brief portfolio, Haskell (or any other web "designer" here) has the ability to "design" a page similar or better than that.
Though these comments are extremely harsh, you should understand that you did just try to sell a product that you made whilst apparently learning to make full-scale models, and now the more experienced designers, developers and the like are coming down on you like a pile of bricks to help you understand that there's so much more you need to learn.
Try not to be so defensive about this, take the hard words and learn from it.
Edit:
To comfort, it's an alright design which does stick to the Garrysmod general "we like blue" theme.
It's the mechanics of how you did it that people are complaining about.
Also (lol) last post 4 days ago I really need to pay more attention.
I think I broke the site because I refreshed too many times.
