• Need a coder here

Well, Ive looked all over the forum, and I can't seem to find the appropriate board, so Imma post my request here... Currently Im working on a mod entitled Gateway (I can post more details if anyone is interested), for which I am the head-mapper/ gameplay tweaker / fledgling coder... The problem is, Im not a very good coder, and need a better one. Im not an "Ideas guy" looking for help, infact, the mod already has an Ideas guy, whos writing the script and doing voice acting. Is there anyone on Facepunch that has c++ coding experience and is interested in being on a mod-team?
Wait, is this where I should have posted originaly?
Yes.
Yes.
Ok thanks... Well, now that my first ban is over with, is anyone up for the job? Or at least vaugely interested?
These kinds of threads don't usually turn out well. It may sound harsh but the best advice is to learn C++ and code it yourself. If you're dedicated to the project then people will eventually want to lend a hand.

See, I WAS learning c++... but factor in doing MOST of the mapping, and I was kind of in over my head. I guess the best way is to BE in over my head? Its a small team, With me, a voice-actor ideaguy, and a voice-actor mapping helper... I've also gotta worry about getting a moddler. (Speaking of that, where would you suggest I place THAT request thread?)
HEY GUYS DO SOME FREE WORK FOR ME AND ILL PUT U IN THE CREDS THANKS
.
.
Im not saying "DO SUM STUFF 4 ME AND GET IN TEH CREDITS"... Im saying "Do you want to be part of the team"... Meaning: your just as important as I am, if not more.
Im not saying "DO SUM STUFF 4 ME AND GET IN TEH CREDITS"... Im saying "Do you want to be part of the team"... Meaning: your just as important as I am, if not more.
You know posting shots and videos of what you have would be a good start
I'd be interested in this if I was currently employed as a coder. That + School = Busy Life. As previously said, it'd be worth learning it yourself, although I can understand you not wanting to do that. C++ isn't a language that I enjoy much, at the moment anyway. Also, I don't know C++. :v: Post some screens or info. You'll greatly increase your chance of getting someone to help you out. Oh... And Good Luck!
You know posting shots and videos of what you have would be a good start
We don't have much at the moment. A proof of concept deathmatch map, and some menu system artwork... Well, Ill throw the basis of the mod out there, maybe someone will like the idea, and immediatly sign on :P: Remember on portal how Glados mentioned that you will now go through a military droid training course? That quick line inspired the entire mod. Gateway, is a class based shooter, a little bit like tf2 mixed with counterstrike mixed with neotokyo. You have two different factions, team 1, and team 0. Team 1 look like portal turrets suddenly sprouted arms, and legs, and maybe a glados head. Team 0 looks much the same, but with the look of the outer chambers in portal. Rusty and corroded. There are 6 different classes. 3 Main, availible from the get-go of each round, and 3 special, which can be unlocked (Ill get to that later). The main classes come in 3 varieties, light, medium, and heavy. Light has the most movement options, and the most sidegrades (not counting special classes). Medium is well... medium. Heavy has more weapon sidegrades than light, and has large amounts of armor, and health. "Sidegrades" can be purchased credits, credits are different than points and can be earned by: Kill streaks, capturing/accomplishing the objective, and mini-achievments. The game will have roughly 20 mini-achievments that start anew each round. There are 9 weapons for the main classes. 3 light, 3 medium, and 3 heavy. Each class can dual weild one of the weapons from a class below them, with the exception of the shotgun. (You can dual weild flamethrowers B) )... Now, the fun/complex part: Special Classes: Special classes can be purchased in the spawnroom, much like the sidegrades. There are 3: The Hacker, The Mechanic, and The Marksman. The Marksman is self explanatory, he shoots things from a distance, and has an EXTREMELY small amount of health. The Mechanic is like a medic, he can heal team-mates. He can also hack portal turrets around the map to shoot at the enemy team, and can hack doors to shut. He harvests energy from dead enemies around the map, and uses that energy to hack the turrets and doors. He can also make one team-mate of a main class into a Juggernaut. An extremely powerfull one unit. Juggernaut effects vary by class. Lastly theres the hacker. He can purchase "viruses" from the store, and plant nasty effects on the enemy like ghosting through their vision, damaging health, and even limited control over them. TL; DR? Read graven Images version at the forums: http://gatewaygame.forumotion.net/ It sounds like a nightmare to code, and it is, to some extent. But I have a plan for it.
:words:
Is this your first mod?
Is this your first mod?
First mod that Ive taken any action on. Apart from some crappy HL2 maps that is. And a few TF2 maps. But thats beside the point. As far as mods go (where its not just maps): yes.
Sorry to say this but to actually get any decent coder to join your team on FP, you either have to know them very well :P, personally ask them, or show some really good work that's done on the mod.. As in, the mod has to be in a stage where it can't be scrapped anymore. Also you'd benefit from a real website instead of some shitty Forumotion forum too (although there are some good mods which are on one, they're mainly made by good friends)
okay sure ill help

I say this because I know for a fact that you will fail. But hey there may be that .5% chance you actually get something that is remotly playable and that you can show.
See? OP doesn't want help.
......... The way you said it sounded like a joke. I don't know how you expected to be taken seriously.
