I got a crazy idea on how to grow the Garry's Mod Communities and get more people on your servers. You know how Minecraft has Planet Minecraft, I was thinking on making something similar with Gmod Servers. It would involve tons and tons of coding. I myself am not the best coder in the world, not that good that we can say so that's why I'm asking for help here. This is a big, really really big project and I need help from all of you coders that wanna help (No financial benefits will happen with this site, if you wanna help us it would be really great)
[B]So this is how its gonna work[/B]
I am gonna think of some way to get this site advertised on tons of servers, websites and if its possible on Steam.
Banners would be 460x60 any type of images.
[B]Sections of the site: [/B]
[B][U]Home[/U][/B] where all the info of the website is like Pictures, Events, Ads etc...
[B][U]Forums[/U][/B] where people can talk about gmod related stuff or any kind of stuff. No applying for staff of the site, people will be chosen by post count, being mature on post, being active and helping people.
[B][U]Servers[/U][/B] All servers are gonna be posted here. There will be the server banner, name, ip and if its possible direct connect from website. They will have a amazing filtering option with over 10 filters in total. What I have till right now is Webpage, Video, Pictures, Gamemode, Community (filter will have friendly/non friendly) Ad-dons(Will list tons of ad-dons), Music (loading screen) Player Slots range, Looking/Not Looking for staff/dev, much more to come.
[B][U]Advertise[/U][/B] People can pay to have their server in the Gold category. What that will do is advertising 2 times a day. People will be able to advertise every 12 hours which can bring in more players to the server.
[B][U]Addons[/U][/B] This is where people can post their addons to get people to download them and have fun with them.
[B][U]FAQ[/U][/B] It will have all questions and answers to most of the questions someone can ask about the website/gmod.
I already have a design done for the website (photoshop) My friends think its pretty great and I do too. I will be uploading some images soon as I get some replies and see if people want to help with this project. This is all for the community and the community only.
A few suggestions from my side, if you are pitching this as something you would like to see but don't plan to work on you are probably in for a rough ride. What are you going to do? Just provide a Photoshop or also write some things?
Also, be [I]very[/I] careful when money is involved and asking others to help. (And I would strongly advise to not have ads as a primary 'feature')
Eh, tons and tons of code really depends if you have a problem with integrating another forum board or not. (Possibly something with a portal instead).
As mentioned earlier, do you have payment involved?
Aren't all of the mentioned features covered by the forums here, Steam and the ingame (legacy) server browser?
