My dad's asked me to help make a website for his business. I threw one together on freewebs real quick, and afterwards I learned enough html to download a template and modify it to my needs. I haven't uploaded the template yet, but will later.
The problem is, I can't seem to find it on Google unless I type the exact address. How can I change this?
The website is http://philmckaystreeservice.webs.com/
The site tags are;
phil mckays tree service, durham nc tree service, durham north carolina tree service, north carolina storm cleanup
(1): Add your site to google, it does it eventually on it's own though: www.google.com.au/addurl/?continue=/addurl
(2): Wait, it takes time for it to update. If you're really desperate to get more traffic get : https://adwords.google.com.au/ - adwords.
(3): If you're not keen on adwords you could always use facebook's advertisement server, a bussiness friend did that and got to many clients to even handle.
And lastly.. If you're planning on hosting a professional business on freewebs you can just forget it. It's unprofessional, slow and completely over stack their users.

I added it to Google last night, I'll check into adwords and the other thing.
I've used freewebs for quite a few years now and haven't had any trouble with it.
I don't really see how it's unprofessional, other than the standard layouts.
Free website hosting is for little kids with no money, seriously. At least buy a domain name to have any chance of being recognized by Google.

Good god, no. I made the mistake of using 1&1, and after I tried to cancel my contract, they refused to let me. So I simply stopped paying, thinking they'd cancel it automatically. Instead, they send me to debt collectors, and I had to put up with that for almost a year before they finally let me cancel my contract.
There are several problems:
1) Get a domain name. A domain name (you can also then use it with Google Apps, or even have email forwarded from name@domain.tld) makes you much more professional, therefore much more likely to take you seriously. These days, rarely anyone trusts businesses that have their websites on free hosting services.
2) Get rid of ads. Not sure if freewebs forces that for free websites, but a website won't be of any use unless you invest some money to make it interesting. This could mean that you'd have to pay a monthly hosting fee, but it's much more likely you'd get something back from it. Ads ruin the overall look of the website and since it's a business you don't want anything of that, especially ads that most advanced users would find repulsive (i.e. MILLIONTH VISITOR!!). If you're not willing to invest into that however, take a look at Google Sites, the ads there (as far as I recall) are much less intrusive.
3) More website content. Pictures add a lot if they're integrated well. Just listing some of the equipment you use (perhaps an excavator or what you have) would add a lot. Also, considering the amount of content you currently have, it would perhaps look better as a single long page. Much less to worry about, plus you'll be able to edit the overall look faster.
Just in case you were thinking about it, don't bother adding millions of keywords on the page so only search engines can see them. Nowadays that's a waste of time.
And don't be afraid of checking out your competitors. See http://www.treeservicenc.com/ for example. Nice domain, nice looking and categorized website. If you'll take your time, you'll notice they've got about as much actual information as your site - but they've expanded upon it with details and added pictures.
Yeah, get it on a proper domain name and a hosting service.
We're talking what, 15$ a year for a domain and 3-5$ a month for hosting?
