Free MySQL Database Hoster - Allowing External connections??
20 replies, posted
Hello People,
I was wondering is there a service on the interwebz that allows users to create a database and allow external connections to it?
I ask this because after spending $150 on a web hosting package the company said that they don't allow external connections due to a security risk?
I need a database to allow connections from my game servers, but I don't know a good company.
Please help me facepunch :D!!
Most hosts disallow remote access.
You could try to set one up yourself on a VPS.
If your host doesn't allow external connections, what makes you think any external MySQL DB will work?

They don't allow external incoming connections.

Because it's a security risk :smith:
Good luck finding that, for a 100 $ you could buy a VPS for a year.

ye with crappy Bandwidth and Memory capabilities :C that's why I came to facepunch.
Your best bet would be to find someone who owns a VPS or dedicated server that would let you use their MySQL. Free MySQL hosts are often very slow or insecure.
Do brohoster allow it? Since my friend has his databases on a Brohoster package linking to his game servers, they might allow it.
Many game server providers also include a mysql database for free

It's not the best, or the fastest but it's free. I use it because 1and1 (Which I regret using) uses outdated MySQL Databases so I use this until I get a new webhost.
You could use amazon RDS.
Amazon RDS is free now?

Was that a joke?

Yeah, you just have to add it to the Remote MySQL page in cPanel. If you have a gameserver, we give you a mysql DB that can be accessed externally as well.

Was that a requirement?
Running remote MySQL servers over the internet is a stupid idea, the lag is way too high. Over a private network sure, but online, terrible idea.
