It's the 10th anniversary of the Facepunch Programming Competition (in a duodecimal system, that is). This time, we're having a jam!
Theme
I've run the votes through the magical blackbox called the Schulze method and determined that the majority of the majority would be reasonably happy with the theme being: Randomly Generated!
Duration (IN GMT)
Competition Starts: 3rd May 2014 @ 12:00AM
Competition Ends: 5th May 2014 (at the end of the day)
Voting Starts: 7th May 2014
Voting Ends: 8th May 2014 (at the end of the day)
You need to turn in your game by the end of 6th May 2014 at the latest. You can add bug fixes after your game is complete, but only if the bug fix fixes a game-breaking bug.
Prizes
The prize is the feeling that you accomplished something. I guess. Prizes haven't really worked out in the past so we're just not going to do them anymore (unless someone wants to offer up a really cool prize, but that's a special case).
Competitors
You don't have to sign up to participate, but it offers some useful metrics that I can graph, so do it anyways:
- supersnail11
- Larikang
- jamie1130
The Rules
- You can use whatever language or framework you want.
- You can team up if you want.
- You can't start your game before the start date. Sorry.
- You can use any previously made libraries, engines, frameworks, etc.
- Any resources (art, music, sound effects, etc) must be made during the competition.

Wait, so is the theme actually "Random Generated" or will it be randomly generated? :v:
EDIT:
+1 to the guy posting directly after me, I hope the theme will be randomly generated, not "Randomly Generated"
I am signing in, but I don't understand. The competition lasts for three days, but I get the theme 4 days early, and I can submit two days after the competition ended ? Lol
Edit: Actually, the guy above makes a good point, I am confused... we already had "Procedural Generation".
Well, almost all of you rated it at least better than half of the themes, so you must not hate it :v:
If you ignore that result, you get "Spy". If you ignore that (because of Stealth) you get "Roguelike"

You should start your game Saturday, and finish it Monday night. You have the end of Tuesday to submit your game, but you shouldn't work on it other than small bug fixes after Monday. So if there's some reason you couldn't submit it Monday, you can submit it Tuesday. Honor system for all of that.

But why is the Thema public right now?
Shouldnt it be announced Saturday 12:00 pm, so ppl can't Start now? :v:

The point of game jams and game competitions is so that people make games. I you want to start now and claim you started Saturday, you're only hurting yourself.
I guess I'll have to skip the contest this time, will be spending the weekend and some more at my grandma's place. She does not have the internets.
Yeah, it's the Easter Weekend :c Won't be at any place I can reliably program.
I'll give it a go I guess, but I'll have to work really hard. I'm not really available the 20th or the 21st, so I'll have about a day, maybe a day and a half, to do this project. Should be fun! Might turn out to produce nothing at all because I've got work as well.
But I'll give it a shot.
Guess i will also have to skip the contest, just heard that I have to work this weekend
:<
I will try, but the result has a high probability of being text-based due to laziness/business.
if we just could skip a week ... Easter and a test in math right after the submission date xD I'm screwed...
Please, pick some other theme than Randomly Generated. :(
Thanks for organizing these things.
Last contest I forgot to submit what I finished :v:
Not a fan of this theme though so I'm sitting this one out
Yeah you do an awesome job of organizing these. I'm in!
'Randomly generated' sums up the vast majority of things I do and as a result it's not that interesting for me to participate in this instead of just continuing work on my current project... I might enter something anyway but I can't be sure.
It's not too late to change it, would you guys prefer Spy or Roguelike?

Rougelike is again a type of random generation, and we already had stealth(#9)...
I really would like to see the "One Button Game"-Theme :v:
I think Roguelike would be a good theme, but it would be kinda crappy to change it on people who can't compete this weekend because of Easter.
Yeah can you change it to next weekend? Im busy this weekend because of Easter.
the weekend after easter would please me too!
And the topic is voted, so stop complaining...
Next weekend is Ludum Dare 29, just something to keep in mind. I'm in for this one, I'll use it as motivation to do some programming.
Yeah can you change it to next weekend? Im busy this weekend because of Easter.
That's what I was originally going to do, but Ludum Dare is during that weekend.
If I count the votes with a different system (Borda), I get "Cheat to Win". How does everyone feel about that being the theme?
I had an idea for randomly generated, but I'd prefer Cheat to Win.
I also had and idea for randomly generated, but some engine limitations would enable players to cheat. Not sure if that would still be within the possible new theme...
If anyone wants to work with an artist, send me a pm.
Although, I probably won't be able to do this if it's on Easter weekend...
Alright, let's figure out the new plan:
Reschedule 2 weeks from now (after Ludum Dare), change theme to Cheat to Win.
Keep date, change theme to Cheat to Win.
Reschedule 2 weeks from now, keep theme.
Keep date, keep theme.
