I've done a bit of traveling over the past year. The majority has been on planes and trains, but there's been quite a few long drives as well. I'm very much nocturnal, so driving at night is no problem. However, after I hit the 10 hour mark, the eyes get heavy and my thoughts are focused solely on finding good, upbeat music to keep me awake. I've recently discovered that taking my eyes from the road to the XM screen and back countless times only makes things worse. Story aside, I know I'm not the only one who searches desperately for music when things are getting slow and you need to stay awake. There's nothing more depressing than flipping around only to hear Lady Gaga on all three mix stations. The Plan Assemble weekly or bi-weekly podcasts of quality stay-awake music. Releases would be decade or genre based. For example, songs from the 60's possess fantastic sing-along qualities. Our arsenal will consist of fast tempos, familiar lyrics and head bobbing beats -- anything to get the body going. The Process Ideally, each release would contain around two hours of music. I'd like to tailor this as many ways as possible so it's accessible to everyone in some form or another. Songs should transition without delay; there needs to be a constant flow of sound. If we could mash up our first test release just from the FP audience, I think it would be a fantastic start. Down the line, users might have the option to upload songs they'd like to hear in a future set. I'm not sure about the legality of any of this when it comes to combining hours of copyrighted music for re-release; legal information or opinions would be appreciated. The People I need your help, but you must have a wide range of musical acceptance. If your collection consists of nothing but rap, this isn't the project for you. I need people who love everything from the 50's to world music, Bluegrass, Trance and beyond. Anyone with audio editing experience is welcome, though I'm looking for people who are genuinely interested in making this happen. This topic can probably be moved elsewhere once the site is up and we've actually got some content. I'm posting here because it's a good spot to assemble a broad range of talent. We'll need a place to temporarily upload and host music. I've got web hosting, but I'd like to keep our music database separate from the site. I wanted to get some thoughts and feedback before moving forward. Are you interested? What can you contribute? If you weren't involved in any way, would you use this (free) service? If there's no interest in this, let the topic fade.
Royalties?
Just get around the whole legalities thing by using the ol' YouTube trick. Then they'll be the copyright infringers, not you. Also, this song always does it for me:

I wanted to get some thoughts and feedback before moving forward.
I'll give you some hosting for the music, as long as it's only temporary storage (it gets removed after it's been podcasted... although that's negotiable). I can keep it encrypted and you can access it via HTTPS/SFTP/whatever. How much disk space're you looking at, and are you willing to promote my hosting occasionally (little link on your website would be nice)? I'll host it all for free, since you're going to be a free site. When you say 'database'... do you mean files & folders, or do you want it stored as binary in a MySQL db, or what? Email me: tehdoomcat@gmail.com - if you're interested in getting a bit of hosting off me. Oh, and in terms of musical acceptance: I listen to anything, seriously. I'm trying to keep myself awake with Dubstep remixes of Florence and the Machine right now . I listen to everything between Godspeed and Grandaddy, from Manson to Hansen, etc. etc. :v:
There needs to be tonnes of eighties music on there. The synthpop is fantastic at lifting your spirits :)
I'd really like to contribute to this project, problem is that I don't have something like a big collection of music but rather a list of bookmarked stuff all over the place. So I would just throw in some of this as soon as I stumble upon it?
http://www.youtube.com/xyrofen A friend of mine runs that channel, he's got a lot of upbeat stuff (check out VSnares, insane breakcore, and he's not one to care about legalities) And I found this via one of the people in the programming forum, I think it might've been Jallen. http://www.starshipamazing.com/ He's got some free stuff, I don't think he would mind if it was just increasing his reputation. And finally: http://www.nevenen.com/ He's got a few good songs as well, all of them are free, but you can buy them in FLAC format if you wanted lossless quality for yourself. There's some contributions music-wise. [editline]01:17PM[/editline] Nevermind, I found Starship Amazing from Chandler, sorry for mistaking you with Jallen, Chandler. Not sure why.
