• What do you want in a web hosting company?

Hello All, I'm currently working on redesigning my company's; Site, Custom Billing, Forums and Product Range. The main reason I want you guys to submit feedback is because I want to hear from the Developers, Designers and General Professionals/Amateurs that use services such as Web Hosting, Dedicated Servers and Backup Solutions. So please post what you expect a provider should have to keep you (the consumer) happy! - Prices? (£1, £4, £4000!) - Features? (PHP5, MySQL, Email Acc, Diskspace and Bandwidth) - Community? (A forum...?) - Customized Extras (Feedback ratings, Points, Achievements) I really hope a lot of you post a reply even if its a small contribution :) it all helps to create a better service.
Reliability. If your services are good enough, people will pay.
Do you think its key then to show the status of 100% uptime for proof of service reliability?
Do you think its key then to show the status of 100% uptime for proof of service reliability?
huh... When I want hosting i expect a 99% uptime.
Do you think its key then to show the status of 100% uptime for proof of service reliability?
100% uptime wouldn't break the deal but it would certainly help it. From developing for a few years I've been through my fair share of hosts. The main things that I liked / hated were server uptime, server speed, bandwidth speed, and general level of competence of the people who are managing the servers. I don't want someone who has their head up their ass working on the back end that my site will be running on. I want someone who's genuinely down-to-earth and knows what is happening from my general point of view. It takes a lot to run a business -- yet alone manage all of the services that run under it, but if a hosting company is capable of helping me without being pompous and "hey, you're a fucking idiot, you're wrong" I'd be happy to go with them.

I totally agree. Customer support is one of my top priorities. The billing script being developed has a feature to rate each response from staff in tickets giving them a reputation that I can personally see and hopefully get rid of terrible sales/support staff. At the end of the day issues do occur. It's how the staff quickly resolve and explain the issue that's important.
Make your site look really awesome and simple. If you make the design of the site look retarded a huge amount of people will be turned off from your service.

It looks a little TOO simple to me...
I haven't touched this in a while since I've been writing server management from scratch for the past few weeks but what do you think of this as of now?
Account Management Account Management
Account Management Account Management
Hi, I'm from the department of the redundancy department. I will remove that.
Trusted by many, highly recommended, and reliable

A good professional and clean design, easy to navigate. 99.9% uptime. Customer Service that is honest and knows what they're talking about.

Ok guys, out of interest we do you like a company that takes time to develop its own scripts? for example that billing above is created from scratch and so will the forums. We also will have extras such as points to spend on web hosting.
In my opinion it shows a more "We're so professional, we have our own system" kind of feel. Which is a good thing to have.
This. It makes me feel a little shortchanged when I see my host has just slapped together a few products. Of course, that isn't true in the slightest - I know that shitloads of effort goes into running a host, however a host with a custom control panel (and a visually appealing one at that) makes me feel like my money is going to better use.

Well what i shall do then is before its finished. I'll post it and hopefully you guys can tell me what you think. [editline]22nd October 2010[/editline] Would also like to update you guys that we are developing a little tool called Dedi Rack. Is there something we could develop that people would find useful?
They also like to say the same twice.
They "like" to say the same twice because it give you a hierarchy you can navigate if you want to go back because the page title will change. So yes, I would remove that when you're on the "root page" but other than that it's fine.
I don't like the way this looks... Doesn't feel like a good design for it.
I concur.
