• Domain name registration from GoDaddy?
    32 replies, posted
Hey Facepunch! I got a question to all the users that have registered their domain names with GoDaddy. Well you see I picked out my domain name, chose the *.com* one. Then proceeded to checkout! But there is something that kinda confuses me.. When you register they are asking for your "Company Name" and its star'd (*) for importance. (Can't leave it blank) Now I do not have a registered Company Name. So what should I put there? If anyone knows a better domain name seller than GoDaddy, feel free to post suggestions :)
Dynadot are pretty awesome. As are Gandi.
Put 'none' or 'awesomeness ltd.' or something.
Well wtf.. I just pressed Next without entering a Company name and all is fine :/ Kinda strange :/ So another question would it matter if I use: a non registered Company Name? [editline]5th November 2010[/editline] Never MIND! If I do type in a company name I have to check off saying that "you certify that the Company Name specified above is the legal registrant of this domain name."
Don't use GoDaddy.
May I ask why not? (not finished registering problem with PayPal :/ ) For some reason GoDaddy doesn't want to use the money on my PayPal account.. It wants my bank card :/

I use namecheap, have had like 8 domains with them. Quick/simple, and has an easy-to-use interface for changing DNS servers.
GoDaddy's site is horrible. I use Domain.com.
I think usually if they're a small company they don't charge out of the ass for domains but Gandi is an exception.
good thing I didn't finish purchasing the item.. Because so far all I'm getting from here is negative comments about GoDaddy.. But I would like some more information as to why they are bad? (btw, I am looking at Moniker.com, Domain.com, namecheap.com, name.com, and gandi.net) [editline]5th November 2010[/editline] I now have 4 Choices : Namecheap.com Domain.com Name.com Or stay with Godaddy.com
Please consider gandi, though their prices are high it is totally worth it!
All I'm planning on doing is registering a domain name -> Then build my website -> Then host it on (unknown) host. From what I understood, as soon as you decide to move your domain name over to a website host place I purchased the domain name is almost out of the picture. Because the host will be responsible for DNS or whatever its called.. So when people will be going to my website they will go straight to the host. (with out going through the domain name provider --> then to host of the domain name) [editline]5th November 2010[/editline] Well thats it, I just registered my domain name with Namecheap.com :) Thank you all for posting/helping :unsmith:

Thats what I would do. I actually do have a company name! but it is being safe guarded until It passes as a trademark :D
When I registered my ezhik.me domain, I put Ezhik Inc in there.
Namecheap is best
Like I said, namecheap is what I use, and have for almost 4 years. It's beyond simple to update your domain's DNS...login to the panel, click "My Domains", click the domain, "Change DNS Server(s)", done. Oh, it sounded like you didn't know what the DNS did. Lets say you host your website at randomwebhost.com. In order to have the domain show your website, you need to tell it to via DNS. randomwebhost.com will tell you what DNS servers to use for them. Example (for Namecheap) [img]http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/7255/namecheap.png[/img]

Godaddy is fine and works great but most of the others are better, it annoys me that I have to log in with my customer number with godaddy and not email address.
I heard GoDaddy websites are targets of hackers, but that's why my really old/gay host said, 2ip.com. [editline]6th November 2010[/editline] He actually hacked them so many times they died...no joke, we all got $180 coupon codes to HostGator [editline]6th November 2010[/editline] dont tell me not to rate myself, i wanted to know what that one did :p

They are targeted because they are so big but their hosting security doesn't look up to scratch either. I rated you box for self-rating.
I don't see the problem with godaddy I've had problems with fxdomains though, because their support don't read your emails, and just reply with constant macro/copy-paste emails.
pls give me cardboard above <3 I used domain.com before, they're a pain in the ass. GoDaddy, I used it like 5 years ago, their support took forever.
Free tip: use [url]www.retailmenot.com[/url] to find free coupons. For namecheap.com, I found a coupon that saved me about a dollar :D
someone's stingy
[b]Namecheap[/b]: Kyle: Are there any coupon codes for domains? Alex S.: Sure, please feel free to use our coupon code FAMILYWARMTH for new domain registrations Kyle: How much off does that give you>? Alex S.: It's $0.88 off the regular price on one-year registration for .com, .net, .org and .biz domains
Well thank you all for the insightful comments :) But I have registered my domain name with Namecheap.com . Everything went smooth and fast, and I also got 1 year free Whoisgaurd from Namecheap.com (gonna purchase it next year), its $2.88 per year. Way cheaper then what godaddy offered. Also thank you Banana Lord for explaining how DNS works. So Namecheap.com is never out of the picture. -Again thank you all
:D YAY! Good choice, I'm going to be getting another domain from them in a month or so when my current one expires (not renewal). I also got a free SSL thing from them, but never used it. Forgot all about Whois.
This thread inspired me to get my domain from namecheap.com. That's a good thing.
Yes it is.
