• Does anyone in here actually use a flipped monitor?

I had an idea to flip my 2048x1152 90 degrees to make it perfect for programming. Then I thought, surely people have done this. Has anyone done this to take advantage of aspect ratio, and is it coo'? :p
I don't personally, but I know people (programmers) who have a setup like this
I like having two panes of code open: especially when doing C++, it's useful to have the header file and its implementation open at the same time.
You wouldn't like it as you would have to look up to see the top.
I use my second 1280x1024 monitor sideways, Its just a little higher that way and browsing the internet also looks better this way
I do.
holy fuck why didn't i think of this before. I hope it's safe to flip an old CRT because it's staying like this until it breaks I actually like it for books more than anything else. Got a C++ book on a rotated CRT and IDE on a 4:3 LCD
I prefer the width when programming, personally.
Yup, my dell monitor stand lets you flip it vertically :)
I don't really need to see a lot of code at once. I prefer the width so I can have more room for sidebars and stuff in my IDE.
I would do this if I had a stand that allowed me to rotate my screen. :saddowns:
Dude why is this NSFW?
Dude why is this NSFW?
Because if your monitor is flipped and your boss sees it he might not be happy?
Dude why is this NSFW?
You never know what might happen when you flip your monitor. :smug:
You never know what might happen when you flip your monitor. :smug:
All your porn will fall out.
I did on 1st April last year. The YouTube page told me it was better to have it upside down.
I did on 1st April last year. The YouTube page told me it was better to have it upside down.
We meant "in vertical position", not rotated by 180°
I've got all CRTs, flipping them just isn't going to work.
I've thought of this, but my monitor would look retarded on its side.

Thanks to this thread I now use my LCD in portrait at work. I like this. :smug:
How do you do this? Are there special monitors for this or just download some software and find a way to get it on its side?
Your drivers can rotate the display output.
Sweet, found it in the nvidia control panel. Now how to get my lcd on its side. :P
I just took off the stand and wired a copper wire through the back of the monitor into the holes in my cubicle so it doesn't fall forward.
I want a monitor specifically made for this, so its functional and doesn't look stupid. Also, I've heard rotating some cheaper monitors can cause the color quality to decrease because of the low view angle or something.
I've got all CRTs, flipping them just isn't going to work.
It works fine. I've had my CRT rotated for days and it's been great.
Should I look into a monitor that intentionally rotates, or I just put it on it's side?
Either way, just make sure that shit is secure. If your flatscreen falls over and it hits something on it's screen, it's guaranteed to break.
