So this thread could be used by people who don't know how to program, or are not good enough, to suggest ideas they think it would be great to realise.
These could be very useful to actual skilled programmers who feel like bringing them alive.
Naturally, make sure to give credit in case you use someone's idea.
All the ideas you suggest are pasted in OP.
I hope this can work out well.
Ideas suggested so far:
[release]

Turn the desktop into a "white board" where people with tablets can write notes and shit, or draw pictures, idk. -NorthernGate
-

Something that allows to keep your PC on but to be able to lock the keyboard-mouse-screen and be asked for a password on return. And it should tell if the PC was touched, and possibly, if a webcam is linked, get a shot of what was happening at the moment. -TerabyteS
-

Sort of a physics based task manager, where every process is a block that falls down over others, and those that occupy most memory (or whatever they're sorted as) float higher than others, or maybe glow slightly, and you can play around with them and throw them away to kill the process. -TerabyteS
-

Also, how about some sexy screensavers? I know that isn't exactly a direct idea, but maybe a screensaver based on:
-Genetic algorithms (I know these exist, but I want more! They're so awesome)
-Input from the mouse/keyboard (Like, a playable screenshot of some sort)
-A game that plays itself (pong AI vs AI, something like that)
Seeing as screensavers are basically renamed exe's, I think this would be quite a fun idea for somebody to do. -Chris220
-

Heres a small idea I just came up with, kinda like your blocks idea TerabyteS but instead of falling blocks it creates a tree and each process is a branch. It could be 3D so you could look around it and stuff, i dunno i am kinda rambling on here now xD -Saevus
-

A cool idea for someone could be one of those 3D directory/file explorer things. There's a few out there already, but I reckon it'd be a pretty fun thing to make -Chris220
-

A neural network program, easy to use.
Where you can train the network, to become some sort of intelligence,
lets say, a neural mars rover sim or something?
It could be cool to learn it to speak your language, doing arithmetric and playing games, shizzle like that. -onforty
-

Sperm Wars, a Multiplayer game where you race through many different environments(old and dusty-young and wet) to the egg. Customize your sperm, add weapons and kill your brothers and sisters. -DesolateGrun
-

A first person game where you're a zombie and you hunt down survivors. The first 2-D fps that I know of. HOW THE HELL!? -Shotgunz
-

A program that would very simply send large files directly to another person (you'd have to enter their IP and open a port). -robmaister12
Idea Numero Uno
Turn the desktop into a "white board" where people with tablets can write notes and shit, or draw pictures, idk.
Just wanted to contribute something to a cool thread
PicPick already does that, but it takes a screenshot and allows you to draw on that.
Also really great idea for a thread
There's already been a few threads like this.

Stop living in the past. It's a good idea now. :v:
Well I'd contribute to the thread by suggesting something that allows to keep your PC on but to be able to lock the keyboard-mouse-screen and be asked for a password on return. And it should tell if the PC was touched, and possibly, if a webcam is linked, get a shot of what was happening at the moment.

I like this idea! :v: Would do it if I wasn't working on a project already.

I'm sure there's an iPhone app that does the camera thing, it's an awesome idea
This could help me become a better programmer. I usually build my ideas around what I already know how to do, so I'm rarely learning anything. If I get some new ideas from this, I might end up doing stuff I would have never done without the thread.
I hope it really does become a megathread.
I think it should be easy
Mouse moves/Keyboard pressed > Automatic shot
Do a Conway's game of life, it's not that hard and some really good practice.
Do a Conway's game of life, it's not that hard and some really good practice.
I've done that. To do it you need a fairly good knowledge of arrays and for loops.

While I agree that it's a fun project, I don't think that's the point of this thread :v:

Yeah, actually that's true. This thread is meant for original or useful ideas that can't be personally executed by the one who posts it.
Why is Soda spamming ratings that make no sense?

I've noticed him doing that a lot recently, strange guy :v:
I've been thinking about a steam community/friends app for android. It could probably be done using open steamworks, and the android NDK, or the dotnetworks and monodroid, although iirc monodroid is in beta, and it will cost money when it is released. In fact, an iOS version could also probably be done using monotouch and dotnetworks

Forgot about Objective-C++, Could also be done this way for iOS

Cost money? Android is an open source OS, isn't it?
Cost money? Android is an open source OS, isn't it?
Yes it is, but monodroid isn't part of the android sdk or anything, it's by Novell, and they've decided to license it
I'd have another suggestion, something "fun" this time:
Sort of a physics based task manager, where every process is a block that falls down over others, and those that occupy most memory (or whatever they're sorted as) float higher than others, or maybe glow slightly, and you can play around with them and throw them away to kill the process.

Wish he'd explain it, instead of just rating me dumb. :frown:

I usually build my ideas around things I would find useful and would use myself. I usually learn something every time. Plus having an application that you use often and being able to add and change stuff in it is nice, too.
Facewound remake!
Call it 'Head Injury'
I love it when I get addicted to a program I've made and get a lot of ideas on how to make it better
How about a general-purpose list tracking site? It could be used to create private lists, todos included, or to catalogue any other information.

KeyLemon kinda does this, as it's a face recognition login system that will screenshot failed attempts. It's too bad they went commercial since I last checked, though :frown:
Wondering why this thread died.

People ran out of ideas, I guess...
TerabyteS: You should list all the ideas said already in the OP, so we can see what's been suggested, easily. :D
