So I'm looking for some cheap storage hosting, something along the lines of +20GB with +2TB bandwidth and a 100Mbit line, preferably european-based.
It would be nice to have it around $5 - $10'ish
Currently I'm paying €50 a month for a server with much too much power, and so getting the price down would be excellent.
[sp]Though of putting it in H&S, but you guys usually know great deals[/sp]
FanaticalVPS have a $10 in Hetzner, Germany.
30GiB disk, unmetered bandwidth, I'm not sure about their line though.
If you want to go even cheaper, you can look at HostRail, but they're slow and US-hosted. I'm moving to Fanatical once they implement Google Checkout or something so I can pay.
Our $10 VPS doesn't really cover 2TB, that'd be about 400% over our 'fair usage' (we normally leave it till around 200% - it's lower just in case).
Turns out my old provider, BluemileCloud have fucked with their services and stuff. They only provide Xen or dedicated now.
I looked at FanaticalVPS first, as I prefer to support fellow facepunchers over greedy generic owners of websites such as gigevps and whynotavps, however it'd be like dropping a bomb on fizzadar's service due to the heavy bandwidth usage. :frown:
I'd go with RethinkVPS if it wasn't because everything about them makes me feel that it'll just randomly die, like that BlazeVPS or w/e it was that did a gigabit VPS for ~$15 a year.
And it's shit expensive.
Fucking automerge.

Check out Hostrail. You can get them for 65% off with a code of 'DEC10CAN'.
They have them in the Netherlands too, if you're looking for a European one.
Damn, I'll let the thread run till I need the VPS in around a weeks time or so.
So far I'm going with rethinkvps, even though it screams suicidal uptimes, and isn't european. :frown:

TBH it's unfair that there's a 'fair usage' thing. Why not just write 500GB or 1TB bandwidth?
Because unmetered = not counting the bandwidth, yet, you actually are.
So yes, I consider it lying, you may consider it something else, but fact stays.

This is true.

Daaaay'rm those evoboxes.
I asked support line, what the average bandwidth usage was per VPS, and it was only 4TB or 2.5MB/s meaning there'll be plenty left.
Only worry is the heavy pricetag, as I'd had prefered to spread the load over multiple VPS'es rather than 1 big, but oh well, a gigabit is nice too.

Yeah, I'd much rather have hard set limits, with the option to pay pro-rata for any overage. Then I at least know the service has been provisioned properly and I won't be disconnected from my 'unlimited' service for using too much. Shit like this really annoys me.
It's unmetered, it's a hard one to explain (perhaps it needs re-wording). Basically, the packages are 1/5/etc mbps unmetered, but on a 100mbps unmetered port, it's basically an unmetered connection with 100mbps burst. But we often leave it way beyond that. The only reason we need such a thing is to protect VM's from sucking other VM's bandwidth, that's all we use it for.
I have no idea what you just said Fizzadar.
You can use up to 100mbps speed, but if you go over an average of xmbps (where x depends on the package) for the month, we may ask that you slow it down a little (and if forced to - implement limits). As I said previously, this is done to protect the node and other clients on it.

I would like to host a mirror with you. This would draw 50Mbps average. Would this be possible on the smallest plan?
This is one of my mirrors from last month:

I will make sure to limit it to 70Mbps peak. Keep in mind this is just one of the mirrors.

That's more than any plan has to it's own. For that kind of traffic you're looking for a gigE VPS or a server.

Well, maybe we can work something out. How about 30Mbps?

Thus it's not unmetered and not unlimited. Since it's both metered and limited.
It's unmetered @ the fair usage in mbps (with burst ability).
Technically it's 'metered' at that usage, but that same rule applies to almost every host around.
I'm currently concidering if I should get multiple small VPS'es or just a single large one.
It's easy to include a check from the homepage, to see if the VPS is online or not, however if everything is on 1 VPS and that VPS goes offline, it's all offline.
I'd also hate to be a dick by using half the shared gigabit connection, where if I spread the load I'd be fully paying for my rightful share.
1x £20 gigabit VPS or 4x £5 100Mbit VPS'es is pretty much the question I'm facing right now.

1x £20 gigabit VPS...
Are you planning on using that all the time?
Evoboxes uses leaseweb:

500mbps is €750:

No way you're going to get that for £20/m.

This is never going to happen, if anything last night we ordered a brand new US node.

You work at rethinkVPS?
You work at rethinkVPS?
Yes.
You're not going to get that kind of bandwidth for that kind of price.
You're not going to get that kind of bandwidth for that kind of price.
You'd be surprised.
I tried GigeVPS over the last few days.
They're shite. Do not use.
New Axon US node is up, we offer TRUE unmetered, we will never suspend for bandwidth usage. We also offer a 7 day money back guarantee.
