Righto, so me and my friends are trying to get into the webhosting money making area, but for our experiment we need to send hundreds of thousands of emails a day.
We have mailing programs and everything set up, but we cannot use our personal connection to do it, because ISPs block port 25... SMTPs online offer said services, but at a very expensive rate, looking at nine thousand dollars for 30 million isps a month, which in my opinion is outrageous.
We went and asked the head networking teacher at our school, he some very vague in a Chinese accent which we could hardly understand... Something about external servers and renting one out or something because they would unblock port 25, and something about providing ourselves a personal internet connection (?)
So I'm wondering, if I buy/rent/find one of those server boxes (the shit loaded with processors) could I use it through port 25 to send emails? How does one go about "buying" his own internet, not like from an ISP, but a personal connection that we ourselves can control? Is it affordable or do I have to lay fibre cables to our houses or something else unachievable?
You want to send, uh, spam?
I don't even.
There are so many things wrong with this OP.
Some "might" consider it spam...... :D
Let me make it simple - Is it possible to have my own internet service? How do server boxes work? That's what I want to know... Sorry about the OP...

I'm pretty sure everyone considers sending hundreds of thousands of unsolicited emails as spam.
): Can none of you help me? Really? After years on FP, I should have expected this kind of thing anyways :P

Hence those last few links. I reckon he might be interested in knowing just how much trouble he's going to bring upon himself. Jail time up to a few years is not unheard of for these cases.

What a great ending :ussr:
reported for spam
[sp]it's because he's trying to spam people[/sp]
It's not spam if it falls in according to the CAN-SPAM code. In my case, it is listed as advertising, which is legal. Don't overcomplicate this and be generally naughty, I'm participating in this activity legally with the hope of achieving something.
How about you learn how computers and networks work in general first?
So you want to send spam to advertise your webhosting business? "Gee, this new company is sending me unsolicited emails. They must be good!" It isn't a good idea to advertise this way, it'll make people go away from you rather than go to you when they see your ad. Just use adwords or something, there's a whole thread filled with advertising services you can sign up for.
Whatever you say. But then you have to remember the emails are being sent to 200 million people, not 10 people, and there are plenty of people who will click that link to check it out with all of its fancy wording.
I learn what I want and what I need.... I'm beginning to understand why users migrate away from facepunch when they've finally matured.

Yes, mature, as opposed to bitch and moan when people won't help or support you in your hilariously awful plans to deposit yet more spam in the ocean of piss that is the internet.
Go ahead and cover your ears, sing 'la la la' all you want, but every day infinitely more intelligent and resourceful people than you will ever be work to combat just what you're trying to set up.
You can take our word for it, or you can take your chances with Bubba.

But yeah, really, you're the mature one here.
PS: L.O.L at 200 million e-mails, don't you need to learn how to open your AOL e-mail account first?

Where have you even got 200 MILLION email addresses from?
I have over a billion addresses. You can find them in online mailing lists.
I am not bitching or moaning, in fact you seem to be making this out to be more than it is.
The marketing emails I am sending are legal and fall under the terms of CAN-SPAM, there is no legal trouble what-so-ever.
I am also capable of sending over a million emails a day, one per address. I don't bombard the same person. It's not "spam", it is website advertising, completely legitimate and without error.
I AM the mature one here. All I seem to be receiving is severe criticism, when I asked for a little bit of good ole' assistance. Tyvm.

The reason the majourity of those people were arrested is if they were either
A): Advertising illegitimate products
B): Tricking stock-holders
C): (This is the largest category) Hacking thousands of computers and using them as zombie spam senders...
FYI: The problem I asked for help with in the OP has been solved.
The CAN-SPAM Act requires that all messages must carry instructions on how to opt-out of receiving such email from the sender. The sender must also provide their actual physical address so the recipient can contact the sender in writing if need be.

Someone is going to come to your house and kill you.
I'll take my chances. Will they come murder me over an email that most likely ended up in their junk folder? I doubt it.

One thing's for sure, they're probably not gonna use your web hosting service as a result of being spammed.

That's the whole point. Statistically, only a very small fraction of a percent will actually use it, but that fraction of a percent is still a huge number of people considering how many will receive the advert.

and Out of your 2million emails the tiny few that may actually want webhosting, why would they go with you and not some good host like lithium?
Most won't, some will. Just let me try what I want to try JEEZ such negative Nancies all up in this hood
That's because you're a fucking idiot and what you're doing is borderline illegal.

You know it too, you just refuse to accept it and palm it off with "I'll deal with it when it comes to it."
Trust me, from personal experience it's not a good idea to fuck with the cyber-laws.
