• Good domain registrars

Recently at a developer talk I was at I heard somebody talking about free domains with web hosting. Apparently if you want to change host, or gain control of your domain it'll cost you to buy the domain. So with this in mind, I'd like to know what your favourite domain registrars are, or if you could recommend any. Also, if you could recommend any to stay clear of, that would be helpful.

Namecheap.com is pretty cool.
I'm pretty sure most people here suggest either http://namecheap.com, I've also seen some other recommend http://gandi.net/ although I haven't personally used them a lot of people are saying they're good.
Backing namecheap.com here, moved from GoDaddy to them after the SOPA fiasco.
So... from what I've heard... Gandi/NameCheap with Lithium hosting sound good?
What about namesilo? They are cheaper than namecheap and offer completely free protection. (namecheap offers free protection for one year, from then on you have to pay like 2$ extra.) Namesilo doesn't upsell anything they literally only provide domains; they don't have mail forwarding as far as I can tell. I haven't registered with them yet, just wanted some opinions. Also Namecheap is "accredited" but is still an eNom reseller. (I asked on their live chat, and they said "their own platform is not yet ready for deployment")
I use www.123-reg.co.uk for .co.uk domains, been with them for a long time, once order has been placed you can control the domain almost instantly. Although I bet a lot of people will tell me they are rubbish.
For .com I use domain.com and use the hak5 coupon code
