In August 2010, I purchased hosting from "tinyshared.com" for $5 USD after it being recommended by someone in this forum. At that time, it was under the ownership of "Kerplunc Hosting." It was OK, but it began to deteriorate and my site's visitors often reported quite a bit of downtime. Then it got a little bit better, then it hit bottom. Every site on the server was down for about 1-2 weeks with very little information provided (even after contacting them at their official gmail account). It went back up eventually and everything was OK for awhile.
In the beginning of December, their hosting assets were transferred to "859compute." This is when the shitfest began. I received an email saying that their nameservers would be changing. I did this, and later I got an invoice from them for the $5 I already paid. I emailed them about this and it was fixed quickly. Later that week my sites went down again. Here's an email I got from them.
Hello all, just wanting to drop a line to all of our great clients and let you know what we have been up to. First we want to apologize for the ups and downs of the servers. We have been working hard on getting new servers set up with high quality in mind not something that just works. We will have these fully functional this week and all clients will be moved over to the new and improved servers. No worries on the move. We have already backed up all clients sites so you don’t have to worry about them. If you have a dedicated IP then we will have to reissue you a new one we apologize for this but there is nothing we can do.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us. Thank you for you continued business. We will try to keep you updated thru out this move.
About two weeks ago, all my sites went down again. I emailed them and got this:
taking a look now
Erik Williams
System Architect
admin@859compute.com
I got no response for two days, and I sent them another email telling them it's still down, and I got this response:
Because yournname server need to point at
Ns3.859compute.com
Ns4.859compute.com
And you should be good to go
I had NO notification that the nameservers had changed. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING???
I did this, but then checked the shared ips for my accounts. They were both down. I sent them an email about this and this is the last thing I've recieved from them. This has made me feel like I'm being hosted by a bunch of illiterates.
Ok that is what is going on we are currently bringing a backup on line of that server that is clean of viruses once it is up wemwill bring your account online. We had to do this due to the fact that 98 % of their accounts we so infected that they crippled the server as soon as we moved them so we had to take it down and clean it then will get you back on line asap I am sorry we could not notify you ahead of time it was a critical bring down and only a few accounts had to come completely down. I will add you site to the top of my list to get moved first
:hurr:
This was the last straw. As soon as my sites go back up, I'm pulling everything off it and leaving. I've been more than happy with Lithium Hosting.
REMEMBER: Don't deal with tinyshared, 859computer or fanaticalhost (yeah, i know). You will be burned.

That's the proper form of the word, and it was the email given to their customers to contact in emergencies.
Typically a business like a hosting company will have email addresses at their own domain.
Just another testament to how shit this host apparently is.
Similar story, i was on kerplunc, they transferred me over, 50% down times. Ftp didn't work, pages couldn't load. I decided to switch to lithium hosting but keep my domain on 859compute.
Do you know what they did? They closed my account and pointed the nameservers at their own servers without my permission.
Btw they are still sending me invoices, and i can't pay because they close my account. :psyduck:
The reason they went to shit was because they where acquired by a shitty company.

Their @kerplunc.com email was down, just with the rest of their domains. Regardless, I often got "official" emails from the gmail address. They didn't have a separate mx record for that stuff and had their nameservers on one server, which is very unprofessional.

It's a shame to see tinyshared go to this company :(
That sucks because they had a pretty website
matic your avatar has caused me to need to check my closet on a night. :ohdear:
Yeah, I had similar experience with tinyshared.
Just, my was pretty much perfect until being "consumed" by 859compute.
I've already posted about this, just can't find the post now.
In short:
They lost everything on my account, took them a 2 weeks to get me a new account.
You get what you pay for...
You get what you pay for...
Not with Lithium Hosting
Lithium hosting is good.
I have/had a similar issue with this, as I am a former customer of kerplunc hosting, and even though they agreed not to sell any customer information, they transfered me to 859 compute, notifying me weeks later. After that, 869 tried to bill me again for my just paid services, which they took back. After a few moves around servers, things seemed fine (even though not really working) for some time. Now, yesterday I sheduled a backup, which I was going to get today. But today I encountered a fat "This Account Has Been Suspended" on both my sites, which are hosted on different accounts. (http://gamesabout.net/, http://sekcobra.net/) Contacting support hasnt lead to an answer yet, and I doubt I will get one. I dont care about the money, as it is payed via PayPal, but the fact that I probably wont be able to get my backup is a serious issue.
They didn't sell your customer information at all, they merged services, that's different.
Apparently, 859compute bought a whole lot of small-scale web hosting companies. I am one of the unfortunate victims of this so-called server migration. I've lost complete access to my cPanel (authentication error) and they have ignored all my emails and closed all support tickets.
Joe Baxter is going around telling everyone that he has not ignored anyone, he just haven't received these emails and all support tickets were closed automatically.
It's a funny statement coming from him because when we sent him a Paypal chargeback dispute he was able to respond almost immediately (he disagreed to the chargeback).
I've been asking him to hand over my files and database (the latest saved backups) and he has decided to ignore me.
Note - 859compute has also purchased the following hosting sites: hostquack.com, hostestate.com, michtinelabs.com - so avoid them at all cost!
I am giving away 20 free unlimited hosting accounts since i just opened my webhosting company.. go look at my forum "Ultimatehost, great cheap webhosting with a special deal for facepunch users"
The special prize won't load for me...

Here's the image that it linked to:

ARGH. I've had NO contact with them whatsoever. I should file a chargeback or something to get their attention. ALL $5 OF IT
I had a bad problem with hosts too.
I used to host with 'colorteck' who were brilliant and did a good job for many months, they then got acquired by a massive hosting conglomerate and things went to shit.
They charged me 6x the billing amount for three months, did not reimburse me, then my hosting and their billing system went down, but the subscription continued, and I still get email invoices with ever increasing 'amount owed' notices, yet I forcefully cancelled the sub as soon as shit started getting real.
lithium is great and cheap.

Except they don't do webhosting anymore, they've joined up with another host that offers it now.

I moved to Lithium not long ago for my shared hosting, support is great and have helped a lot, and their hosting is great too, no complaints about them.
I used to be with tinyvps and had a stupid amount of problems with it, only was there for the month I paid and moved straight away.
