Well, not really competing forums, but really, other programming forums.
They can be terrible or whatever you want, so post ones you find.

Damn. I thought this was going to be some kind of metaphorical programming jousting tournament, where members of programming forums would go up against each other to see which forum had the better programmers.
Alas.

stop();
and
on(rollOver){
NextFrame()
}
Ect Pretty easy stuff Im Not looking forward To Making harder games I might Post My Game at New Grounds (If They Except it Witch i Dont think wolud be pretty hard to get it in cuase There is games that dont even work on there Lol)So that all I have to say about It Thank you Guitarplyr on you tube

I think we would win.
Someone should make a site where you fight with robots implemented as virtual machines.
Maybe make them giant fucking mechs that you piece together with parts. Not only do you have to program the thing, but you have to properly maintain your weight balance and capacities, power reservoirs, heat dissipation, etc.
Mechs would have different modes of locomotion (tank treads, hover, bipedal, quadrapedal, etc.), thrusters for air combat, etc.. They could be powered by electricity from a generator or stored in capacitors/batteries (weight/sustainability tradeoff) and you would have the choice of pneumatic, hydraulic, or electroactivepolymer actuation, each with their own benefits and drawbacks. You could have rail guns, ion cannons, conventional cannons, missiles, giant-ass chain guns, artillery, energy swords, etc..

It's not quite what you had in mind, but there's Core War. That might make for an interesting FP programming competition.
I always thought of making one myself when i was younger.
Shame i never did, i doubt it would pick up now a days as theres so many available
A compiler is a program that put a script into another. Most Compile to Machine Code.. And Machine Code is the hardest language, but thing were made to make it easier.
Plus: I don't think HTML can compile to anything, where you looking at HTML tutorials or something else?

PSS: You get a Compiler when you install Windows, Linux and I think Mac.
C = 01100011 and CY is 01100011 01111001 then Y = 01111001 lets do the whole alphebet now 01100001 00100000 01100010 00100000 01100011 00100000 01100100 00100000 01100101 0010000001100110 00100000 01100111 00100000 01101000 00100000 01101001 00100000 01101010 00100000 01101011 00100000 01101100 00100000 01101101 00100000 01101110 00100000 01101111 00100000 01110000 00100000 01110001 00100000 01110010 00100000 01110011 00100000 01110100 00100000 01110101 00100000 01110110 00100000 01110111 00100000 01111000 00100000 01111001 00100000 01111010 = a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z . (note : in binary a space = 00100000) now you can write things in binary i had to write all this down but try to memorize it (try copy and pasting to notepad)
I used to use the challenge you game thing when It first came out, I used it for like a week and then it got me to get into real game development.
When I originally used the site, there were no forums, so just recently I was bored and came back to check out what had changed, click on the the forums, and was not impressed.
I don't go there any more.
Are you fucking kidding me
Oh God this forum is horrible.
Okay. For some time now I've been trying to learn programming stuff. But every "tutorial" (a long lecture directed at adults using words that you only know if you already know how to program) hints at the need for something called a compiler. What the is a compiler? They never mention that and they never tell you where you can get one. I need something to teach/help me how to program. Or if you know a free in-depth way to learn HTML (yeah, that's right. I cant even do HTML.), please share.
This is probably the smartest of the bunch, but that's not saying much.
Haha, HTML is easy. You should be able to get it all in a week (a day actually, but it's better to rest your brain because although it's easy, there are many sections). Cascading Style Sheet however is harder.
You do not need compilers for creating a website using an FTP server application (like FileZilla).
Before I say anything else, here are the two best XHTML and CSS guides I found:
www.html.net
www.htmldog.com
If you're into laughing while learning, try the HTMLDog link.
All you need to know will be in there. You can also view tutorial videos on YouTube, but it's actually kind of hard to keep up, and text tutorials aren't too hard, and they exercise your brain.
Anyway, compilers are for more complex languages like C++ or Pascal. A basic compiler you can download that is by Microsoft, is Microsoft Visual C++. Since C++ is the most basic and more versatile language you'll be finding and is widely used in game developing, I recommend sticking with Visual C. Or, if you don't really care about fancy UIs, try DEV-C++, it's the one I use.
So, let's summarize what I just said:
HTML is for creating basic websites. CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) is an accessory of HTML and is and has a seperate file extension (.css). You might also see something called XHTML in those guides I posted. XHTML is Xtended HyperText Markup Language, which is a dialect of HTML, and is most commonly used.
C, C++, C# all the other languages are basically for creating console applications, but I assume you're more into creating videogames. In that case, try learning C++ plus, and moving on to C#. Although the normal C language is easier than those two, it's not much used, but if you do want to learn it, please do.
You should really try Google or Yahoo! Answers next time you ask on here.

In that case, try learning C++ plus
lol

OK, I've got to stay out of this thread. I don't usually get angry just by reading something.

How do I use openGL and c++ to make a dynamic light source that can be quickly rendered and is optimal for games? Such as something lightweight and powerful. Also rendering water physics in openGL, any ideas? I'm trying to make some have decent water particles. Any opinion?

Are you actually working on a game right now in opengl, and if you are you should have something for sound if you are working on a game, mabye you should use SDL for sound.

Eh, Yea im using some directSound for sound, But uh, did you read my question?
first of all, sorry. Where did I say that you don't know what's going on? I said I don't want to just waste my time helping someone who wouldn't get anything done because I'm busy programming, which didn't mean I thought that but I just knew there was a chance that you are not experienced. Have you tried to do it? If so, you could show specifcly your problem. I wouldn't say I'm a really good programmer but I know what's going on so don't be so condenscending about this situation.
This kid is a complete idiot
A while ago i saw someone working on a project that looked somewhat alright.
Saying they needed help, I decided to try to help out, give them some pointers.
He then asked me to "port his games to HTML " that was made in game maker. Needless to say I didn't end up helping him.
They treat HTML like its godly.
That's because they're nine years old.
Do you think theyd accept money to be sterilised? :v:
