Hey guys! I have noticed (as I'm sure you all have) that when I attempt to go at a new project, I learn a LOT about programming. I am looking for a project idea that involves a client-server system, something that communicates over the internet. A friend of mine suggested I try making an IRC chatbot or botnet/rat type thing, but I was wondering if there are any less-malicious project ideas that any of you would have. Thanks. :)
Also, if possible, I would like to have it require some sort of a GUI. I have never had the need to anything outside of command line stuff, so a project that requires a GUI would be fun.
Pong that connects to two irc chat rooms, and the paddles respond to people saying up and down.

That would be a great webapp idea... irc pong warfare, have it show both irc chats when connected...
Maybe if I decide to start with java or something.
