• Time commitment to Lua

Hi All, I'm planning on learning Lua, in order to broaden my knowledge of how addons work in GMod, and maybe look at making one further down the line. Do any of you have any recommendation on how much time I should spend daily studying/practicing Lua coding? There are obviously loads of tutorials out there going from step 1, but I don't know how much time I should spend to become competent. I imagine it's very much a 'practice makes perfect' subject/language, but any help would be much appreciated! Cheers, Ash
Lua is a pretty easy language to learn, much like Python. It has an easy syntax, so if you're determined you should be able to pick it up in a couple of hours. There's the handy free Programming in Lua book which you can use for reference. Try to get a solid grasp on the syntax, because it'll make it easier for you further down the line. Once you're comfortable with it, making addons and gamemodes for GMod can be as simple or as complex as whatever you want to make. The wiki is a perfect place to go for reference on functions and other basic guides, and can usually get you started in the right direction. The amount of time you want to spend on learning it is entirely up to you. You can spend more time and perhaps learn it quicker, or spend less time and learn it periodically through the week. Find what suits you best!
Hi Contron, Thank you for the response, and great advice! I'll take a look at those resources and see what's what.
