• Home File Server Software

I've looked into making a home web server simply for storing files for easy access from any computer/device in the house. I wanted to know what you think I should use as software (preferably) but if I have to, I'll use a custom os. -Software people recommended- HFS - http://www.rejetto.com/hfs/ Abyss Web Server - http://www.aprelium.com/ -Operating systems people recommended- FreeNAS - http://www.freenas.org It'll be running on an old hp from around 2002
Use Linux and setup a smb share
For a simple nas, just do a minimal debian install. That allows you to raid disks together. And as Wilki said, you can get away with a simple samba share (windows file sharing). I'd only look at some custom OS like FreeNAS, Nexenta or OpenFiler if you plan on managing multiple storage pools or arrays. Something you probably won't be doing.
Alright sounds good, thanks guys :D
