What Is Ludum Dare?
Ludum Dare is a regular accelerated game development Event. Participants develop games from scratch in a weekend, based on a theme suggested by community. Ludum Dare was founded by Geoff Howland, and held it’s first competition in April of 2002. Since then the community has run more than 22 regular Events, several dozens of practice competitions, collectively creating many thousands of games in just a weekend each. The event attracts developers from all sides of the industry. Students, hobbyists, industry professionals from many well respected game studios, as well as many independent game developers. For many people, it can be difficult to find or make the time create a game or prototype for yourself. We’re here to be your excuse.
Basically, you alone or with a group make a game in a small amount of time. Single participants get their own time span to work in, while teams get a little longer. When is it? The next ludum dare is August 22nd-25th 2014 http://www.ludumdare.com/ So who here on fp is participating this upcoming dare?
I would be participating if I was home. I was all pumped up and ready and then it turns out that it's on the same weekend that I am out of town :(
I might participate.
I'm going to participate, but it starts at 2am for me so I guess late night.
Gonna give it a go
Connected worlds, got a good idea for this one, gonna give it a shot
The theme is out! Connected worlds. [editline]23rd August 2014[/editline] it's kinda shitty
The theme is out! Connected worlds. [editline]23rd August 2014[/editline] it's kinda shitty
Yea no one has a fucking clue what to do. :v:
am I taking the theme too literal?
just saw what you posted on the compo blogs what [editline]23rd August 2014[/editline] -gif- whattt
to be fair who doesn't instantly think of giant moon sized catgirls when they hear the theme "connected worlds"?
Hmm, I might try and make something quick, coming in very late for this one though

4 1/2 hours left!
I'm glad I'm doing the jam, the extra day's gonna help.
Alright I'm pretty much done I'm having trouble submitting though I keep getting this "Invalid request" thing not really sure what I'm doing wrong here
I'm not sure where to take this from here. [vid]http://zguyserver.nu/videos/Video_2014-08-25_003448_VP8.webm[/vid] Not that I have much time to take it anywhere at this point. [editline]25th August 2014[/editline] Didn't really get far, but submitted it anyway. http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-30/?action=preview&uid=22621
Well I didn't get the whole 48 hours but managed to get something submitted anyway! Submission Link: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-30/?action=preview&uid=30913

Took me a little bit to realise you needed to press E to grab/release exactly under the right hand, and also that you needed to click to button(?) to get to the next area, but well done anyway. Too bad you couldn't do more with it. When I got to the 2nd zone though, there was nothing in it? I used the Web Player version. Anyway, well done and gave it a rating for ya.
Overly ambitious ludum dare jam project with 8 hours left. Didn't go to sleep last night to work on the game. GONNA KEEP PUSHIN
Here is my LD Compo game. It's an exploration game where you can send and receive messages from other players who have played the game. http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-30/?action=preview&uid=4034

That's weird though, are you sure it was the 2nd world? The third world is the same as the second, but empty.
Thanks! That's weird though, are you sure it was the 2nd world? The third world is the same as the second, but empty.
The first area (white floor) with the three cables I did, hit the button to open the door. 2nd area with orange floor had nothing in it.

http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-30/?action=preview&uid=10400 Ended up being kinda buggy and certain things are kinda bland, but the goal is to get as much money as possible and conquer tons of planets.
The first area (white floor) with the three cables I did, hit the button to open the door. 2nd area with orange floor had nothing in it.
Ah, I see the misunderstanding now. I should've explained this somewhere, but was too tired when I uploaded it. The first room is "the hub". The screen in the corner is the world selector, and the two connectors beneath it are bits with the least significant bit to the left. So connecting just the left one and pressing the button connects you to world 1, just the right one connects you to world 2, and both connects you to world 3. Sorry for not making this clear.
ay, noticed the comment on my submission yeah most of the people that tried the game out have complained about the ship controls, im not sure if its an issue based on my personal preferences or the fact that I just got used to it as it was vastly improved from earlier version so I never had a problem I probably should have upped the turn speed though tbh
Controls are often hard to get right unless you have other people testing your implementation. You usually get used to whatever you come up with pretty fast, and don't realize it's actually pretty bad until other people give it a try. In this case the ship just felt very sluggish. When I first got in it took me a little while to figure out the control scheme, mainly because the mouse didn't appear to do anything in the beginning.
