• How do you make a Portal 2 mod?

I know with Half-Life 2 you can use the SDK to make a mod but in the Portal 2 authoring tool it dosent have anything to make a mod with. Any help?
I was under the impression that only Half-life 2 had its source code freely available to those who owned it, and that all other games did not. With that said you can still modify your own copy, just not the binaries, so you would be restricted to making levels, models, textures, etc.

Source code is not provided, although that's something I wish was provided with the P2 SDK, as well as the L4D2 and CS:GO SDKs.
First of all I know that none of this is true because ive seen thousands on Portal 1 and Portal 2 mods on steam. And second I found this developer page. Im just not sure how to use Nems tools. Im just meaning it basically copies the game files over and allows you to add your own maps, materials and etc.
As someone who is working on a Portal 2 mod: It's not worth the hassle. Just pakrat the custom content in the maps and upload them to the workshop.

I think it would be a really cool project to design my own menu, make a 12-15 test game, and let people play it. I feel like the workshop is aiming really low.
I feel like the workshop is aiming really low.
The workshop is pretty low, but it's about as high as someone could aim. You can post it on websites like Thinking With Portals or myApertureInnovations to get more attention, but doing an actual mod is more of a limit than freedom.
design my own menu
Good luck. It's hardcoded in. The most you can do is move things around and change colors, you can't even modify the chapters menu.

Because with Half-Life 2 I was able to do all of these things super easily. Oh well thanks for the help anyway.
