Hello,
I have recently started to return to 3d modelling and animation by creating small props and such and making them work inside Garry's Mod. The next task I have set myself is to use one of my models, a knife as a weapon on Garry's Mod. I come to you guys for help because I really don't know what to do. I have gotten as far as decompiling the viewmodel hand references from counter strike and messing them about in 3ds max, creating small animations with them.
I'm probably going to come across as a complete moron to you guys, pls be nice. ;)
But yeah, I am using 3DS Max to model and animate my stuff.
Ah, although I wasn't really looking for a link on how to actually model, that dude is hella in depth with that though. I'll definitely be looking at that.
To make it clearer, I need help on actually using my already made knife model and turning it into a swep. Which means I need to learn how to make viewmodel and world model animations and stuff.
Thanks for taking the time to post that though dude. :)
Here's another. It focuses more on actually rigging the models to be animated. Unless you already have your own animations ready, I would suggest you use the preloaded animations for the knife from Counter-Strike. Then again, if you can make your own animations, that is also better as well...

Thanks for the input man, another one I will be looking at. I know how to animate, I have taken the hand references from the CSS knife, (not the knife itself) and I have messed around creating small karate chop animations, I need to learn how I would apply these and export them to work as a model. Surely you would have to put in some coding somewhere saying that a certain amount of frames is it idling and another amount is it hitting or stabbing etc. I hope I'm making sense haha
