Okay so I just got HL2 and Garry's Mod with this massive Valve sale (and didn't get TF2 due to money T.T).
I tried searching garrysmod.org for war3 models which only gives me WoW addons, and this site but this site gives me some database mumbo jumbo with slaves.
Anyway, if I have the .mdl model and the texture in .tga format, would it be relatively easy to import into Garry's Mod?
What are you talking about? If the model is extracted directly from WCIII files, than you have to import it into a modeling program to re-rig it or mess around with it. Tga files won't work with a model, it has to be a vtf and a vmt.
As much as I love warcraft 3...

I don't think these'll look that great.
The picture doesn't even work.
Lame, why would I need to re-rig it? Isn't the model already in the right format, or do I need some other things?
I just downloaded the SMG Pack 1 and looked at some files in the model folder.
.../mario/
mario.dx80.vtx
mario.dx90.vtx
mario.mdl
mario.phy
mario.sw.vtx
mario.vvd
mario.xbox.vtx
So the base model is there, what's all the .vtx (vertex?) files for?
And yet people import stuff from WoW. A little better quality but still relatively low poly-count compared to other games.
Just because it's spelled the same doesn't mean it is the same.
We have a Warcraft 3 model request thread btw. So far someone got a building into gmod and thats about it.
Its easy to get them into gmod, if you know what you're doing.

If that was the case wouldn't we had a bunch of them by now?
More than one engine use the extension .mdl. It's a logical extension for models. However, very few of them are interchangeable.
So, you would have to import them into an editor, and re-export as SMD, which is the intermediate format which is then easily converted to Source. You may or may not have to re-rig them.
If the editor doesn't have an importer for Warcraft 3 MDL, you will have to rip the model using 3DRipperDX, then rig it and export it.
