Need Help Making Models Compatible with Garry's Mod

Hey! So, this sort of thing is very new to me, although, I have done as much research as I can on the different types of models, and, rigging, and, basically all I could find about the basis behind converting them for compatibility with Garry's Mod. Now, just to clarify, I'm using Autodesk 3ds Max, and am planning to use Studiocompiler to actually convert models for compatibility with Garry's Mod. I assume that's all there is to it, but, due to my lack of experience, I wouldn't be surprised if I'm missing something. So, am I?
For the rigging and modeling you're on the right track, I use 3DS Max as well and love it. Once you get more comfortable with it you can do model edits and what not, it's great. You need certain plugins to actually export to .smd for model files and .vta for flexes.
For compiling, yes, you need studiocompiler or something similar. I use GUIStudioMDL. Great program, but you will have to mess with file pathing and what not to get it to work properly most likely.
For texturing pick up VTFEdit. You'll need it to import the textures to a format Gmod understands as well as edit the rendering properties. Also any editing program such as GIMP or Photoshop will help.
Like I said, you're on the right track but there is a lot to learn with each of those programs so look up as many guides and tutorials as you can. MarioKart64 made a good one though it's kind of dated now but still good for reference and it seems others have started to post some of their own on here. Just remember not everything you need to learn is Gmod related. A lot of stuff, especially with Max, is general use information. Good luck!
