right. I got photoshop and everything but I dont know where to start.
Get [url=http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?c=149]VTFEdit[/url], and if you want the [url=http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?c=154].VTF plugin for Photoshop.[/url] VTF means Valve Texture File, which are the materials you need to reskin.
You'll also need [url=http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?p=26]GCFScape[/url]. It allows you to browse GCFs (Game Cache Files, I guess. I think that's what it stands for.) for Source games and extract textures. They're located in Program Files/Steam/steamapps.
Once you have loaded a GCF (source_materials.gcf is HL2 textures) you should go into materials/models folders and find a folder of a texture you want to extract. Lets say Breen. Extract the breen_sheet.vtf from materials/models/breen and put it somewhere you'll find it in a bit like your desktop or a nice organized folder of VTFs. Open it in Photoshop if you have the VTF Plugin, or open it with VTFEdit then export it as a .JPEG or something if you don't have the plugin. Edit it and take your time.
When you're done, save it as breen_sheet.vtf. Go into your GMod folder and into your materials/models folders and create a "Breen" folder. Put your .VTF in there and see if works. It will replace your original Breen, unless you hex it. That's a lot different, so I'll let somebody else teach you how.

You are a wierd one, usually you learn how to hex after reskinning. Since usually the goal of hexing is to hex your own reskins.
Reskinning should be alot easier to understand than hexing, you should have no trouble.
i use paint and vtfedit's combination for skinning, it is good for simple recolouring

GIMP is good aswell (I also use what you said, but I use this aswell ^^)

Ok i reskinned but how can i convert png to vtf again?

i used gimp to make golden headcrab, and eye retexture. (:D) but it is kinda hard for me (i am a paint-tard).
