• Where to start?

So I'm attempting to port some models from SketchUp and GTA to source - I have zmodeler2, Blender (limited access to 3dsmax) and patience. Is there anything special I should be aware of when starting this process? I've never done any modeling before. These are simple static props, btw. I've heard texturing can be a bitch - if so I'm boned. I can't do graphics for shit.
