Frankly put, I've been procrastinating applying to college, well not necessarily. The fact that I don't know where to apply also contributes to why I haven't applied anywhere.
The purpose of this thread is to help shed some light, for me, on where to apply. I'm currently a senior in high school and although I'm not too good at modeling (I cannot model), I've been mapping for four years and when I was asked to really think about what I want to do for career I thought game design, so I figured that I might as well go to college to learn how to model.
The problem is that I have no idea where to apply. I've been googling colleges but I always seem to find some sort of fluke when I look at reviews for said colleges, most people say that it's a scam or that the place isn't accredited. So I'm mainly wondering if there's some sort of database that has links to colleges around the country or perhaps a list of well-known, credible institutes, specifically in Michigan. Any information pertaining to this topic would be appreciated.
I hope you will find it, in my country game designer as a career has not exist yet~ T.T
I know Conceptart.org have a section on art schools and the like, perhaps you'll find some useful informaiton on there.
I would love to be able to help you more but I'm british and haven't been considering going to america for college. I will say one thing though, it's generally hard to find a decent, legit course on digital art/modelling since it's such a "new" addition to colleges.
I find that it's mostly the sub-standard schools who offer courses on modelling etc. as a gimmick so definitely look up the college's reputation and try to find previous graduate's graduation portfolios to see if they're actually worth it.
Over here, I've heard the only "good" courses in game design are in Glasgow... but then again, that's word of mouth.
Another thing you can do is look up the college's ranking, I think the newspapers usually produce a rankign sheet, but again- be wary and check more than one newspaper's ranking because of bias yadda yadda.
Hope it helped.
Many many schools offer Game Design and I can name 5 of them just off the top of my head. Many Game Design majors offer modeling classes. WHen I was in college, I learned to model my school's campus under the major of game design. Also, if you would like to just model and only model, I would recommend that you learn it at home as I currently am, it is much cheaper and saves you a lot of time. Keep talking to me on Steam and I will further direct you.
