So I am having problems with this texture:

Whenever I put it on a model it looks really bad and barely visible. A friend told me it has to do with an odd channel composition, but he could not fix it.
How do I make it look decent on a helicopter model?
Increase the visibility of the segments you want to show by adjusting the alpha channel. Assuming you understand how the alpha channel works in Source, make the segments that you want to show brighter on the alpha channel of the diffuse texture.
I had already tried that before, it looks hideous.

What's your .VMT look like? It shouldn't look that hideous if the .VMT is set up properly.
Never mind, turns out I forgot to change the texture in the model, it was still using the old one.
I will try the alpha trick again and report back.

Okay I tried it with $translucent instead of $alphatest and it works better now.
Thanks for reminding me that existed.
