Not on pc = hard to do
Not on pc = hard to do.
Fixed
It`s hard enough that it is impractical to do.
What the hell do people think the models are made on? The 360? Anything made on a PC or mac can be accessed by a PC or mac. The only challenge in it is getting the software to access it. Generally its just engine specific, unless of course the software requires you to go in game (3d x ripper for example)
The only challenge in it is getting the software to access it
Which is kind of a really big challenge unless you have access to developer tools.
have access to developer tools.
Which engine is red dead redemption run on?
RAGE and Euphoria. The same as GTA IV.
They put Niko Bellic in gmod so why not these?
I really hate having this discussion. Everybody is like "Oh it's not possible" then the other side is all totally "Yeah it's possible why not" I'm not even close to an expert on the subject, but this is how I see it. It is possible to get models from Xbox games and PS3 games, but it is so hard that it's not worth doing. What most people do is reverse engineer the files, which are sometimes encrypted in weird compressed files that only Xboxes and PS3s read, so you have to get rid of those first. If you do manage to get the files, you have to reverse-engineer them. For example, if you have a model you maybe first have it in 3DS Max then you export to a file format the game can read. The people who want these models ported have to figure out (through coding, looking through it in a hex editor, that type of stuff I do believe) how the developers got them into the file format that the game engine can read. They have to reverse that so it can be opened in a 3D program. This just isn't for consoles, though. Many third-party PC porting applications were started this way; it's just harder on a console. To my knowledge, there's not a ton of people who can do it. Over on Xentax forums this is what they do; porting through (I think) reverse engineering. My point is that it's so much hard work and effort to get models from Xbox and PS3 games that it is not worth the time. Most games have interchangable PC/Xbox versions, but to my knowledge nobody has gotten models from the PS3/Xbox versions of GTA IV. There's no need, since the PC version is way more accessible.
