I am trying to make my first w_model, but for some reason, the weapon appears in the crotch of the user of the weapon!
What did I do wrong, and how do I prevent it from happening the next time I make something?

I decompiled the CS:S Knife from the gmod models folder, then ported it into milkshape, before I replaced it with "my own" model.
There's a bone somewhere on your w_model named <ValveBiped> if it came from CS:S. Rename that to <ValveBiped.Bip01_R_Hand>.

Do you mean a group named <ValveBiped>?
Because it isn't under groups

Haa. I'm now imagining that sticking out of someone's crotch.

under the "Joints" tab.
rename to <ValveBiped.Bip01_R_Hand>
and make sure that joint is assigned to all the verts in the model.
I used <> to seperate periods and such, sorry if it got confusing.
