Sorry to post this, I read the FAQ and I have downloaded a 30 day trial of 3ds max and a compiler, I was wondering if there was some kind of wiki on modeling for gmod, making view models and animations etc, sorry if this did not fit the criteria for posting in the request section, don't ban me please :'(
I have been poking around 3dsmax trying to get familiarized and I was also browsing through the wiki, the tutorial in there for making view models uses something called XSI.

Do I need another program to do view models or can I do all of this in 3ds max?
3DS Max does everything. It's awesome.
Do you know of any tutorials I can use to make view models? I don't exactly have any intention of creating actual models rather then making models into weapons, the tutorial in that wiki uses softimage and is extremely vauge.
Edit, I also saw a post about models becoming grey after becoming decompiled and imported into 3ds max, I do not remember where I saw this. If anyone can post a link or post the fix I would be forever grateful, I rechecked the wiki and Kathar's website but could not find it.
Decompile existing viewmodels with cannonfodder's decompiler. Then compile again using hl2worlds' tutorial.
Well sadly hl2worlds tutorial section is down, but if I follow a tutorial on how to create view models etc for a certain game lets say css or hl2 which one would work in garrys mod when I finish if any?
Edit, I finally opened up GCF scape and pulled out and decompiled the v_hands model, but instead of getting two hands I get what looks to be an entire body, the videos I have seen are just two arms and hands :/
