So I noticed I can find models here and their going through the threads, but is their like a database, or released models megathread? Just wondering because it would be a lot easier to locate the things I'm looking for.
Not really. There should be though. I hate it that most of the posts some threads are mostly people bitching and moaning, but these things do take time, I guess.
I think its more of people just showing off what they've done, half the stuff that is shown in the threads never gets release. Its only after extreme bitching and fighting that people release there models.
Most people who do not release the models are doing it because they are not finished or thee are some legal reasons, and the models can't be released to publicity (I'm pretty sure they get released on the gold forums, tho).
Also, how can you blame them? Their models, their shit. Fighting and bitching ain't gonna change anything. Most people do release models anyway.
Some people make release threads. The workshop is a good way to check up on released things, except for the fact that not everybody uses the workshop yet.

Really?

How did you know about the huge model repository we have in the gold section? Did someone leak a picture of all those faceposable Fallout 3/New Vegas, Battlefield 3, Max Payne 3, GTA 4, Hitman Absolution, Sleeping Dogs, and Far Cry Blood Dragon models?
I was just guessing, golds are quite a closed community, do the rule of banning public releases doesn't apply to them, I guess?
I don't know, because I'm too mean to pay these few bucks for a gold account, so I won't know.
And you won't tell me how it really is, will ya? :v:

The only models I've ever seen that were not released due to legal reasons were the ArmA II and III models, because Bohemia sent garry some mail about it or some shit about breaking their use of the models. Technically, most models that are ported from other games are 'illegal' as they break the agreement that the game's assets are not used in other forms either for commercial reasons or otherwise. Luckily, most companies do not care or do not bother taking action against this.
Most people model or port models as a hobby here, and can release them when they think their project is done. Many people have jobs or school that they attend to and don't have a lot of time to finish up their things. I can't speak for everyone else, but sometimes I just don't feel like finishing something. Procrastination and laziness are frequent trends.

Oh we have all kinds of stuff stashed away there. Metal gear solid 4, heavy rain, halo 4, just to name a few. It's really an amazing model stash. A few people would call it ethereal.
Other than that - the two best places to find models at times are garrysmod.org and steam workshop.
if you want released models, check the gmod workshop or Garrysmod.org.

Thank you very much! This is exactly what I was looking for! Now I just need to figure out how to export and use them in the programs I want like 3DS & Unity.
I think you mean, decompile.
this should help you get started

search decompile
We used to have a release subsection but garry removed it to 'streamline' the forum.

Thanks I did look it up and everything. Looks like everything is obtainable with some effort. Too bad their is no simple model repository with the raw files like a simple model file with materials folder. I use 3ds it would be awesome if I could just direct import or download a .max or .3ds file..
There is a program called Noesis that can open Source models and export them in a variety of formats. It's probably preferable and less time-consuming than decompiling, which is better if you plan to recompile a model back to Source.

I'd strongly recommend against noesis for any bodygrouped models though. Since it pipes the whole thing as a single mesh out.
@xsniper - one more thing. You mention you'd like a repository with max files - The truth is you really don't. Since max files have some of the worst crosscompatibility between versions imaginable. And very often you can't even open an older one with a new version of the file.
But perhaps the best repository of the kind you're looking for is - thefree3dmodels.com but keep in mind that it's relatively small and the majority of the meshes are unrigged and generally pilfered either from releases here or other communities that do a lot of porting like the xnalara one.

For SSBB stuff + certain files from the iso including characters:

Scroll down to Original Files.

Try using their nonmax filetypes, or convert the FBX with noesis.
