• Allosaurus fragillus model/NPC replacement

I started this ages ago but got fed up with the IK system in Source so I never finished it, but I got a hold of Mudbox and used the old Allosaurus model as a test mesh. Mudbox is a bit of a bitch but I got a decent normal out of it. If anyone is interested I may release the ragdoll early instead of making you guys wait until the animations are all done since it is fully rigged. I'd like an Allosaurus. And it would make Antlion Guards fun to kill.

The old model was capable of outrunning the player and every other NPC in the game and it attacked a lot faster than the Antlion Guard. Set the damage to 100 and it quickly becomes a force to be reckoned with. One time I built a Halftrack in Gmod and decided it'd be fun to test it out on the Allosaurus. I spawned it up a road and then pasted the Halftrack around the corner, then drove around to meet it. It just stared at me for a few seconds then charged and I floored it, we met in the middle and the Allosaurus hit the front of the Halftrack, flipped it over and then ran around to the driver's side and killed me before I could even get out of the seat.
What a beautiful Allosaurus. I'd love to have this on my Gmod.
With some texture tweaking it'll look very close to this: [img]http://images.wikia.com/walkingwith/images/3/39/Allosaurus_1.jpg[/img] Look closely, you'll see that the model shown on OP has the crests and everything. Although it's not exactly above the eye. And yes, it'd be AWESOME to have on GMOD. It's always cool to have more dinosaur models.

The other one I've looked at is the Allosaurus from the old Lost World Playstation game. The crest location for my Allosaurus is more correct than WWD though. In WWD it's more like they shortened the skull and put the eyes in the antorbital fenstra instead of the orbit.

Yeah, I had read that they had gotten the structure wrong.

That is looking pretty good actually.
And a charge animation. Quite pleased with this one. The run animation isn't very fast but faster than the walking animation, the charge animation is the Allosaurus running it's full speed straight at you, and you won't be able to outrun it so be prepared to shit yourself if it catches you in the open. It's official, now over 50% done with the animations and most of the hard ones are done now. Only 22 left to do.
Seeing your work in the images, and judging by it, this is going to be an AWESOME NPC replacement.
I should be ready for a rough test soon. I'm setting up the joint constraints in the QC at the moment, then I'll make a Phymodel. Then I figure I'll animate until I get sick of it and go try to test it in-game. The QC appears to be sound, the only parts missing are the sequence entries for animations that aren't done yet so it should compile alright but you guys know how that often goes. Hopefully it won't end in me throwing a musket onto my ATV like Company of Heroes does on occasion. Most of all I'm hoping the IK will work alright, I was going to make a surprise release of this Allosaurus two years ago but got pissed off due to the IK not working properly and there being incomplete documentation on it so I could fix the problems and shelved it. That and I was animating in Milkshape at the time so it took bloody forever to make a halfway decent animation. But having 3D Max to animate with and Mudbox to sculpt with I think this version will be a lot higher quality
Good news and bad news. Good news: It compiled. Bad news: Collision model won't work. Good news: Jigglebones are a success. Bad news: Jigglebones are buggy. Good news: I may be able to debug the buggy bones. That is all.
So will you release the ragdoll aswell soon like you said at the OP? :)
When I can figure out why the collision model doesn't want to cooperate, hopefully. Right now I'm more concerned with the jigglebones since they're kind of important to the NPC.
