Hey i have an issue with this character rigging im currently doing for a Source SDK mod i'm working on, i'm trying to add weight to the rig and i press Ctrl+P and i select Armature Deform with Automatic weights, and it goes from this...

On the armature, did you clear all transformations? Also, on the base model. While in T-Pose delete all armature info. So, try this first.
- Delete all armature info in the base model.
- Clear transformations in the rig.
- Before parenting, check the rig. Go into pose and make sure the arms don't move.
- If the rig is stable in pose mode, select all and set it to Rest Pose.
- With all info clear and Rest Pose set try Parenting again. Depending on which version of Blender you are using you can also try Bone Envelope instead. Heck, copy and paste two different sets and try one with Auto and one with Envelope, see which one works better for you.
- Even with Automatic weights you are definitely going to need to go back in and clean it up. Especially the fingers.
