I... I've about gone insane from the number of hurdles thrown at me with this. All I'm trying to do is decompile an SFM workshop model for use in Max. Something I already know how to do with .mdl's and Valve related content. Once upon a time, any mods involving Valve were a goddamn open book, easy to explore and access for anyone so inclined.
...So then, what IS this "_legacy" bullshit, and why is it giving me the finger?
I mean, okay, the .bin itself can be opened with 7zip or winrar or whatever. Standard archive. But what is this file INSIDE it? Why is it obfuscated as all hell? What opens it?
This would be fucking hysterical if it didn't piss me off as much as it does: I try to access these models that someone turned into .mesh files readable by XNA, and then I can't find any way of porting that format. Now I'm here with the only alternative, which is on Steam Workshop, and there's some kind of wacky ENCRYPTION file garbage standing in my way! On models that are available for public USE! Why is it so IMPOSSIBLE for people to use .fbx or .obj files that people can actually USE and make them available???
So please... PLEASE... someone tell me I'm blind, and that there's some simple process to access the files in Workshop addons... because this is going to KILL me, the way it's going...
literally rename the extension to .vpk, open it in gcfscape, and you're done

Well, these files don't seem to HAVE extensions. They're just "files".
But I extracted them from the .bin files and did exactly that.
It opens... but nothing is inside it. The files end up being like 80-200 megabytes, and as archives they just show empty.
Thank you for the response by the way, I do appreciate actually getting help. Always sucks to be that guy with the empty thread that just slides off the page because nobody says anything.

don't need to extract anything beforehand, just rename the original files

I did it... I did everything you said... over and over and over and OVER again...
There's just NOTHING.
This file is the biggest of them at nearly 90 megabytes, and it just shows NOTHING. The others show NOTHING too. I haven't found a single thing that showed anything but a blank window. I had to open an actual Valve VPK file somewhere to be sure it wasn't just GCFScape being fucked-up, and that opened just fine.
But none of these will...
I feel like the world actually hates me, and is doing this on purpose... I hate being alive.

Give me a link to the Workshop item, and I'll see about extracting the files for you.
This happened to me before on Insurgency. Long time ago, the addons were downloaded to insurgency/insurgency/workshop. Then one of the updates changed the path to workshop/content/222880/*addon ID here*.
The addons downloaded before that update created a BIN file (just like the one you have) inside the new path, and downloaded the VPK file in the old folder, inside the 'insurgency' folder along the game files... Check the game folder and the new path at workshop/content/*game ID here*.

Hello, can you please extract mine Workshop item too? Thank you! 😉👍

That mod can literally be found over at NexusMods, so you don't need anything extracted from the Steam Workshop for that mod. This thread has also been dead for a little over a year, so I don't know what compelled you to bump it just to ask me to extract something you could have found over at NexusMods.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
