Skeleton gets rotated upside-down and 180 degrees backwards when exported into SMD in 3D Max

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this issue.
Basically, the entire skeleton gets rotated upside down and backwards when I export the model into SMD format. The model uses bones which are from another game, however, I added custom, self-made bones as well which do not get rotated.
I really do not want to recreate the entire skeleton, so if anyone can help me with this issue, it'd be much appreciated.
I use 3D Max 2016 by the way.
are you exporting with the right worldspace? look for options like "z forward" or "-y up" when exporting, those are likely what you need to change, just make sure they match whatever the destination engine prefers.

There is an option where I can change the up axis. I'll try it.

No, it didn't work, now the model gets pushed back quite a lot of units backwards and is still upside-down
