I wanted to have a request of porting my Fallout 3 character's face into Gmod, but from what i've heard, it is either incredibly hard, or it is impossible.
But hope dies last, so...
What about using 3d ripper DX, then opening/editing the fae in 3ds max?
Is it possible?
There has to be a way.
:ohdear:
That could work, just the amount of effort it takes to give a model good faceposing for source isn't worth it in my opinion.

Why use 3d ripper when you can just extract the models using the tools the modding community created. The only hard part about getting them into gmod is rigging / faceposing.

Because you don't get the facial params that way obviously.
And I*agree with bloo. It's not worth the trouble. Far better to get a base face model and edit it yourself in max.

Well you wouldn't be able to use the face stuff anyway would you? It'd be better to just make your own faceposing seen as fallout's is shit.
It could work!!! Yay!
My character is unique. With unique textures. That's why i want her to be ported. She's an aspect of mine. In a game.
The only thing i'm asking, is to someone to port it. Everything else is my problem from that on.
But....of course if you have too much free time....:D

Nobody's talking about faceposing, but about the head mesh itself.
@mutle
Why not just try ripping it yourself with the ripper then?

I managed to rip the feral ghoul model from fallout 3, are the humans stored as a huge group of models and then swapped when talking? That's the funniest shit I've ever heard if so.
Uh no? But they essentially all use the same base head mesh with applied modifiers.

I don't know anything about modelling, just the most basic stuff, and i mean the REALLY basic stuff.
In short: I can't do it.
and ripping anything with the ripper requires absolutely no ability or knowledge apart from being able to run a program
I didn't know that. Until now. So.. thank you!
I remember making my own Gordon head in Fallout 3 and then ripping it with 3d ripper DX.
It worked, but took me a week to get it working well.. Maybe using the community tools it would have been faster, but I had no idea of them in that time.
Please, ferdam, could you help?
You could also just get the Facegen program (the tech they use in FO/Oblivion) and make your character (or yourself! works from photos), and it gives you an option to export as a .3ds or .obj which any schmoe can import into any modeling program.
Textures are garbage though, it'll need a lot of love.

Does the FaceGen program have a specific name? Or is it one of those random ones you can find over at the fallout 3 nexus site? Here. If I knew what it was called.. I'd probably spend a few hours playing Fallout again :D
Okay. By the grace and awesomenes of Skaarj636, the modell was ripped and now it's being worked on.
Anyhow, thank you people for noticing this thread and not just ignoring it, or rating me dumb or saying "GTFO".
Have a nice day!
Hey guys, I'm just bumping this thread because I find it interesting.
In fact I want to rip a face from fallout 3 too, I don't want to use 3D ripper DX(already have and it always give the leaning sight).
Please could you tell me how did you extracted you're face from fallout 3?
Ripping the models with 3d ripper DX, then rigging, etc. Skaarj did the hard work, and i take little credit for it. I can say i take no credit for it.
