So i've been thinking... How would you be able to make a [b] Very Big [/b] Mountain in Source SDK? Ok, in the past, Displacements haven't been to kind to me, I don't get how to make a series of displacements that you can sew together to make a giant mountain, I've looked through many Displacement Tutorials and other sites, but couldn't find one describing something of this magnitude... Anyone have any tutorials or info they can help me out with? To get more hype into this thread I guess, I'm mapping it for a future game mode me and a few friends are developing, with the release of the new Helicopter Vehicle, we've decided to make an ARMA like game, we may be looking into Military Pack 2 with the jets also...
The map is coming along good, right now, i'm making the Helicopter pads, completed 3 so far, one based in a old military silo which looks cool... The Island will be tropical, which i've decided, and will be vast, having a coast line for boats, small agile boats, no Aircraft carries, and will have mountain tops and dense jungles... Making the map will be one hell of a task with School starting in the next couple of weeks too...

i never use sew tool, just copy and paste a small displacement brush and select them all, and then TADA begin making mountains,
1024x1024 blocks of Level 3 Displacements are what I generally use for my large maps.
Use larger brushes for it.
I mean larger sculpting brushes.
I use 1024-2048 radius+ height value of no greater than 20
along with what they said, they'll look great
Use hypno frogs thing make a block that is 2,000x2,000 unit brushes scale them to .0625, then dcreate displacements with the power of 4 displace your mounts and alpha what you want, then when you are done making all your mountains/hills then when you are ready to make it full size again rescale it by 16 and it will be at normal scale again.
