Alright, so recently I have been seeing LOTS of maps that have potential but people do NOT put door frames on their doors... I don't know if I am the only one who has been seeing this, but it has been bugging me. Adding a door frame isn't hard it takes about 1-2 minutes of work to get it all right.
example door:
Now as you can tell the door looks pretty good because it has a door frame take away that door frame and it will be the ugliest thing in a building.
This tutorial will show you how I do a door frame, it works fine for me and it looks great!
First: use the dev template that valve supplies! it is the right measurements! It is their so use it!

Second: Align the texture so it fits well on the block with the Justify Tool to align it to the bottom left so you know it is high enough and the left you won't have to cut at all because you are on the left of the template door texture.

Third: Use the clipping tool and clip off the gray edges until you get one door texture that looks like the picture below, it is starting to look like a door is it not?

Fourth: The picture below shows the door with the brush still in the center but it is looking more and more like a door!

Fifth: This next picture I added to little 8 unit bars on the side so it snaps to my grid that I use, also I have deleted the door that cam with the dev texture because there is no need for it when you are going to use a prop_door_rotating.

Sixth: Next get the entity tool and choose prop_door_rotating, choose the door01_left.mdl for it is the main model with pretty sure 14 skins that you can use.

Seventh: Press apply for the door to get placed in, it might be off center and all so just use the transform tool until you can get it in the center of the door frame, which it should fit perfectly inside it.

Last: Texture the frame and put a wall around it. to make it look good and what do you know! You now have a door that actually looks like it belongs in a wall!

Now you don't only have to stop here! You can change the door frame and the wall around it to what ever you want! Only thing that matters is! that the door frame has to stay the same size so the door can actually fit in it!
Now after I wrote all this I remembered that people might bug out about this. The door frame the top corners you have to slant into each other for the textures to collide into with each other so it looks good. Here is a picture as an example.

Agreed, doors look alot better with doorframes. Also, god bless that template texture :D
This was needed.. or lots of people are like me: Lazy.
Yes it was very needed! lol
They had to go change it in l4d so the texture doesnt fit >:(. Good tut for newbies.
Might want to fix some of the images though. :v:

What do you mean? I noticed the Last section of it the image was missing but that is fixed now.
I think we need a whole tutorials section, would be pretty cool.
Also excellent tutorial

That's more like it, you rape him hard mang..
TheLeet, only problem I see is that your walls are 16 units thick, that makes the door frames look really large, you should use 8 for most walls.

I believe i've seen a similar tutorial to this on the wiki as well, but I forget the exact location. If I find it again i'll edit this post. ;}
